I just got asked, if I would like to purchase a 74 Comet GT. It's blue with black stripes & accents...has a 250 cu in & C-4 column shift & bucket seats. T he guy said he would take $300 for it. My wife & I went & looked at it last night. The car is very straight. Has some rust starting to show behind the rear tires. It could use a headliner, not real bad though. The drivers seat back is broken. Don't know if it can be fixed (welded). I do have an extra set of buckets from a 74 Grabber. It also has a worn out lower driver's door hinge. The door drops when you open it & have to lift it, to close it. It hasn't run in a year. The tabs are current. He says it needs points. I noticed the radiator has leaked at some point (top seam). I do have a new one in a box at home. Does need some work. Originally a Montana car. Really needs a cleaning. What really impressed me about the car was the wheels. They are the factory aluminum sloted mags with the Mercury emblem center caps. They are in mint condition. First Comet GT I've seen, with the wheels still on the car. I'm thinking the wheels are worth $400 alone...I'm thinking, should I get this car? My wife isn't to fond of the big bumpers. I need some help here...any feedback is welcome. The guy needs an answer by the 20th. After that, he'll sell it to someone else. Decisions, decisions.....slap me silly!!!!

Sounds like a decent find. But I understand the concerns about having another rig laying around. Space issues, costs (if restoring-profits if parting), neighbors whining, and spousal gripes will have to factor into your decision. If you can address the above issues, it may be worth it.
Howz dat for clearing it up. Tee-hee!

I'd get it, especially if you could make most (if not all) of your money back off the wheels alone.

Buy it for the wheels and part it out if you have the room.

I cant believe you have to think about it. :D Of course you have to buy it. Those Comet caps are very rare and almost impossible to find.

Aluminum slots, sports mirrors, Comet hood trim, hood, grill, bucket seat tracks and a bucket plus other goodies ... Definetly worth $300 even if you part it out ..

Matter of fact, IF you buy it and decide to part it out, I'll take the grill. :) Going to pick up the Comet bumper this afternoon from Dan which means I would only be short a grill.
