The cheapest way to convert over to fuel injection is to get a donor 5.0l ford mustang from 1987 to 1994. Take everythinh from it and swap it. You will need somebody familiar with wiring diagrams(will need diagrams of both cars) to tie it all back together. Good Luck.

A few things I would ask myself first if I were in your postion:

How capable are you at wireing it up?
How much money do you have/want to spend?
Do you have someone who knows what they are doing that can help you?

With that said it would be best to go to a junk yard and get the full EFI setup off a car. That includes, any harnesses, wireing, upper and lower intake manifold, the computer, and all that good stuff. You'll also probably have to get an aftermarket fuel pump and a regulator, maybe not. I don't know much about that yet.

All wires that you splice will need to be soldered together and shrink wrapped, which is not a problem if you know how.

Not trying to rain on your parade, just telling you like I see it. I would have at least 500 bucks in hand before I even began to take on a project like that, and thats using junkyard parts where ever possible.

Nope. Megasquirt is the cheapest way, but you'll have to have a laptop to tune it. Last I heard MS cost was $230. I myself am thinking about building one.

I'd have to agree with 1badmav on this one. That's how I did it and even though it was time consuming, I now have modern fuel injection the way the factory would have done it. 90% of my conversion utilized used parts and didn't break the bank, especially since it was spread over several years of parts gathering. Good luck!

That's how I did it. I found an '86 Grand Marquis in my favorite junkyard and paid about $100 to get all the fuel injection related stuff. (of course this was in '92 or '93, but depending on the junkyard I am sure you can still get alot of this stuff pretty cheap). I have since converted from speed density to mass air, but the main harness is still the Grand Marquis. These days so much info is available in the internet that as long as you are willing to do some research EFI is not an impossible job. Mainly you need a good understanding of electronics and wiring and need to be able to solder and shrinkwrap.

I am pretty convinced that there are probably no real good options for in-tank fuel pumps. I use an external high pressure pump. I also used the fuel vapor line as a fuel return line. The regulator is part of the fuel rail, which you can get from the donor car. I originally mounted the EEC (computer) under the dash on the driver's side, but have since very carefully extended the wiring harness and hid the EEC behind the driver's side plastic panel in the back.
Anyway..doesn't give an exact answer on cost, but if you gather the pieces a few at a time and spend time figuring out how it all works so you don't have to pay someone else to do it, it can be done without breaking the bank. :)

If you're resourceful enough, it can be done VERY cheap. Make friends with the local mustang people, search the local classifieds for cars being parted out. I've parted out mustangs, and left the entire fuel lines, electrical, and all that stuff on the car, and sent it to the crusher. I wouldn't worry about the cost on this so much as the skill level involved in the job. I applaud your courage on taking this on so young. I didn't even start doing those kind of things till I was nearly 30.

Here is a good web site for information. Summit sell these wire harnesses made by ford for this type of swap PN FMS-M12071C302 $224.95 (main harness) FMS-M-12071-K302 $88.88 (Sensor package)

Ditto on what jeremy said. Find some mustang guys and get their leftovers or spare parts. Thats the way I would go about it although there are other directions, like mavman theres the megasquirt which has a lot of "tuneability" lol (if thats a word) just you need a computer.

My advice is to save your cash now and scavange off the mustang boards and local cars.
