duh? Just did it. Bought two more instead of fixing the first one. More options, more models, more money, less time, less affection from the wife. But now I have a '70 mav for the light hotrod, a 74 mav for my boys, and a 74 comet for me too. Gotta have the merc. to go with the Cougar. AND, I just got a deal on a 21' sailboat and trailer with outboard I just couldn't pass up. So definitely get the two, .....and look for a sailboat. NO MORE TOYS UNTIL THESE ARE ALL DONE!!!!!
tough call,.... you could go either way. I have two now,.... one is sort of for sale, and way to nice to alter for what i'm doing with the 2nd one,.... so 2 works for me,.(til #3 comes along)
This is a tough one, but I believe I would lean towards fixing the one you have first. Unless you come across a really good deal of coarse. I bought a project to do a few years ago, and then the Maverick bug bit, and I ended up buying 3 more. I haven't had a chance to even start on the first but the later 3 were nicer vehicles, and I didn't go wrong with them, but in retrospec, I could have had the first one done by now. The questions that you have to ask yourself is: Do have the space to store the additional Mavericks? Will you be driving them, which means carrying insurance and buying tags for them each year? How important is it to get the first Maverick done? Can it be put on the back burner for a while? Just something to think about. I do believe you are better off spending some money up front for a nice solid car vs. buy a project that will cost you more money just to get it in the shape that you get for less that is already there per say. The bottom line is, it takes money to restore any car, even if it is a good deal. One mistake I made is, since I didn't have a garage to store all of them in, two of them sit outside, and the weather does start to take it's toll. Not the ideal situation, so I may try to sell one of them just to get it in the right hands, so what was once started can be finished, rather than sitting outside waiting for me to get to it. Good luck either way!!!
If it were me, I'd buy 2 more. You can never have enough of these cars. I think I have an in, on a 74 Comet GT...working on it! If I get it, it will be #5...I can have my own mini meet...LOL
After more consideration,I think its easier to put all of your energy into one at a time, there are enough distractions building just one car, if you try to do two at once then your prioritys can get misplaced easier. I've found it also works in your favor to keep the project car to where you can use it or at least drive it a little(as stages of work allow)to help you keep your interest. good luck either way
I saw one.... that has been sitting in a guys driveway for a long a$$ time. Some could say the same about me but, I belive it is an elderly person and the car looks to be very good shape cosmetically, and an older, non-smog car, which mine isn't. If it's a six I could get it running with a drill and bottle hone and putt around in it so I could sell my other car and fix up the other,1976, Maverick. Hmmmm. What to do, I should go over to his house and ask to buy it just to see what he says.
I saw one like that! Knocked on the door. 80 something old lady comes to the door finally, the other deaf 80 something sitting at the table I could see through the screen door didn't even look up at the knocking, 3 times, progressively louder each time. Finally the first one totters over to the door. "Oh no, I could never sell that, it belonged to my husband and he loved it". Hadn't moved in 4 years. Still hasn't. Just sitting there on the car port, I guess she figures he still comes around and sits in it once in a while. Someone will inherit it eventually and sell it I guess. Not sure I want to live to 80 something.
I haven't worked on the Maverick because.... it has been over 100 degrees for the last 23 days. I just open my back window and look at the ol' mav' and that's it! Prolonged heat like this saps my energy. It is being predicted to last over 30 days! Someone e-mail me a f**king iceberg!
