Russ, cool car. I've been planning an idea in my head for about 2 yrs. now about building a cowl hood that looked like it belongs on a mav. It looks like you have already done it. could you post some close ups of your hood or email them to me, I would like to see it up close from every angle I can. Thanks in advance, Ward
Ward I can't take credit on building the hood. A friend of mine built it for his Mav. He then sold his car and gave me the hood. It is basicly two Mav hoods welded together. The lower portion of the hood has about a 26X35" section cut out of the center. Then he took another hood and cut out a larger section to use for the raised portion. He bent the sides of the new center piece down to give it the 2 1/2" cowl "bump". Then he welded it onto the lower portion. There is ALOT of Bondo in the hood to blend it all together. The major bummer is that the Bondo is starting to crack and come out. I might try to grind it all out and "re-work" it. I have seen other fiberglass hoods but none of them have the center "crease" of the factory body line. I think thats what really makes the differance. I'd take more pictures but I don't think they would show up very good being that it is all black. but here's one from the front. Russ
Russ; very nice car what is the back spacing on your rear rims i'm thinking about going to 15" rims on my 76 with a taller tire to cut my rpm for cruising down what size tires do you have on the front a very good looking set up you have there. Wilbur Green Ohio Rep.
sigh I am SOOOO green with envy. Seems as though you have done alot since august. You still want our four door? My dad and me were toying with the idea of givin it to you for 1000 and buying that 73 on ebay with the 302! Man, I have seen nicer, cough cough dennis's, but yours is still my favorite!! I have a set of the wheel well trim, but I am not sure if I would be willing to part with them yet. How would they look on a "hulla blue" 70?
Thanks for all of the complaments, it looks better in the pictures then it does in real life. The rear wheels a 15X8" with 4" back spacing. The fronts are 14X6" (not sure of back spacing). I'm running 205/70/14's on the front. The wheel well molding is factory. Todd I've decided not to buy another car right now,but If you guys want to sell the 4 door inthe future keep me in mind. Again thanks for the kind words, it makes me feel better after I had a young punk ask me if it was a Cam**o over the weekend Russ
looking sweet russ, wonder why ya needed the new tires? lol i think theres still rubber from the old ones on the front of my mustang from the meet in august lol.. im hoping to find mine in the garage again sometime this week, i know its there somewhere. i might even do something to it before the next pa meet.. pic from before i took it apart :-(
ahh i hate that!!!! i hate it when some people come up and say .....duh i am a die hard chevrolet fan, i know every chevrolet there is to know, i hate fords, by the way you have an awesome camaro. tehhhh geeez whiz. they look nothing like a camaro except a slight resemblence in tail lights even then it's no contest. and my car clearly states MAVERICK on the fender, gas cap, ford sticker in rear window, and i am usually wearing a ford racing hat at car shows...... arrrggghh i guess you can't get to mad at the ignorant. or uneducated... relieving stress.. ~Dan~
The rear is stock width. I do have a set of coil"helper springs" clamped to the top of the rear but they don't lift the car any. They only come into play if a put two or more people in the back seat. The leafs are getting a little soft because of their age. I plan on installing a new set of rear leaf springs this summer and I then I won't need the coils any more. I feel this wheel and tire combo will work on any Maverick or Comet, as long as the rear suspension is in good shape. Steve if you still want this gas tank its all yours. All ya got to do is come and get it. BTW did you find work? Russ
