I was driving my maverick around with some of my friends last night and noticed something that had never happened before. When I'm stopped and accelerate to go i hear 2-3 knocks in the back. I have no idea what this is. Any ideas?

My uncle had the same problem w/his MB 240 it turn out to be that the muffler was grinding with the drive shaft

You're gonna have to check all four of your leaf shackles and the mounts and make sure they are all solid. Also check your shocks and their mounts and make sure everything is solid there also. It sounds as if something is loose and when wound up upon acceleration it is moving thus causing the knocking noise. While you're at it check the tranny mount and motor mounts, sound travels funny sometimes. U-joints would be knocking at all times under acceleration and not just for the 2-3 knocks that you described so I doubt it would be these but check them anyways. Hope you find it.

i would be willing to bet it was a u joint.....and if it goes out in the back then you will lose the shaft onto the road and the tranny fluid will pour out like a water hose....

if you hear the noise....never before....thats the warning....fix it...before you get bit

Before changeing or replaceing anything, I would make sure all 4 nuts are tight on the U bolts that hold the driveshaft to the rearend. One of mine was basically finger tight and slightly cracked when I pulled my shaft to swap the trans.

What scared me more was thinking about what could have happend the times I ran 90+ down in the interstate or that one morning Earl parked his green car directly behind mine on Terry's really steep driveway. :90:
