I have an automatic Mav w/ a 6 cylinder. Can someone pls tell me what is involved with putting in a 302 V8 from another Mav that has a manual tranny? Also, I might add that my Mav is a 2-door, and the V8 Mav is a 4-door, if that matters. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

As long your car is a 250 6-cylinder you are good .. otherwise you will need to get a C4 from a V8 car .... 250 and 302 cars used the same C4 ...

I'd be interested in the V8 manual trany parts if you aren't using them ....

Thanks for the reply. Nope, I have a 200-6, so I guess I will have to get a new C-4 tranny for the new V8? My Mav is a 73, the replacement Mav is a 75, if that means anything? Will keep you in mind for the manual parts.

Nope ... just swap the motor mounts, radiator, engine harnesses, throttle cable and you are good to go .. It may sit lower since you have 200 springs in it so you may want to swap them as well ...

As far the the C4 tranny ... if it is a column shift car you'll need a column shift lever on the C4 ... or a floor shift lever if it is a floor shift car. Just swap the lever from your 200 C4 to the 250/V8 C4 when you get it ...

Thanks for the assistance. If you don't mind, what is involved with the ac parts? My car doesn't have ac, but the replacement Mav does.

Swapping to factory A/C is more trouble than it's worth. Ditch the A/C ... however, you will need to get the correct pulleys for a non-A/C with P/S or a non-A/C car and no P/S ... You may also need the correct brackets if the Alternator and/or P/S will be in a different place ....

    dmhines,

Just to be clear, will the tranny from my 200-6 Mav work (I have the automatic column shifter) with just a lever when I put in the replacement V8 engine from the other Maverick (which now has a manual tranny), or do I use the tranny from the V8 replacement car with matching lever, or do i have to get another tranny from an automatic V8?

Here is the replacement car I just won on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4559995726&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I will do an inventory on the parts when I pick it up, and be in contact with you with whatever items you may need. Thanks, again.

LOL .. I was gonna bid on that car but his email to me made it sound like his reserve was $650 ...

You need to get a different C4 .. the V8 is more heavy duty and will have the correct bellhousing ... that is assuming you are going to keep it an automatic ..

if you go with an aftermarket shifter, then the shift lever comes with the shifter & you cut off the factory one.

Thanks. I got an ebay e-mail that he had lowered the reserve, plus he doesn't live too far from me to get the Mav.

Do you have any idea where I can get a V8 C-4 tranny with an automatic shifter? My shifter is on the column, does it matter that a V8 tranny have the shifter on the floor or the column?

The shifter lever will be different on the transmission if it comes out of a column shift vs. floor shift car. If you want to keep it a column shift car just make sure you save your old transmission so you can swap the lever ...

If you want to keep the shifter on the column, You will need the linkage with the pivot that is bolted to the frame from the v-8 car.

    Thanks, yall.

To regl404, thanks for that last post.

Hey, dmhines, you said I need the correct bellhousing for the tranny. Does that mean that I can use the tranny from my v6 car, but get a new v8 bellhousing to go with it? If this helps, I want to keep it automatic, not manuel, and I want to keep the shifter on the column.

Also, does a 75 maverick (the one I'm getting) have hardened valve seats?

I'm planning on having the engine magnaflauxed and the cylinders bored. Has anyone put a fuel injection kit on a 302 V8 on their Mav? Thanks!
