Those oil pump shafts can be frustrating. I have a 77 250 dist in my 71 170. They are all the same. Next time get it to where it stops, then grab to fan and slightly turn the motor. Works great every time.
On my 351w, I just touch a screw driver to the solenoid to bump the starter motor while holding down on the dist. Falls right in every time. Good score Jamie/ clint
you know those screw drivers that have a magnetic end and you put the screw bits into it...i use one of those (minus the screw bit) if its the small oil pump shaft it will fit right over it...turn the oil pump shaft 1/16 of a turn until the dist drops in place
You can get a remote starter switch from Summit for about $10 (if I remember right) which is basically a pair of jumper wires and a button. While more expensive than a screwdriver, the leads are pretty long and you can bump the starter without standing over the solonoid.
I decided to put together a page with all the pics I took. http://5hp.hill.cc/Maverick/duraspark It may not be purty, but it sure runs good! Looks are overrated.
clean looking install, I used a 4 prong trailer connector for a wiring harness when I did mine.....good job, now get that Fram filter off of there !
Folks, this is a seventeen year old kid. If his exploits don't ring your bell, your clapper is broke.:bananaman
Terry, you still looking for that trunk lid? If so, I know where you can get one or several. I thought long and hard about buying you one yesterday, and I would have, but I didn't have anything to tie my trunk lid down with since the other trunk lid would have been sticking out.
