Is it possible to get it out without unbolting the trans cross member? After driving about 150 miles yesterday, this trans I just put in leaked about a quarter of a quart of ATF on the driveway over night. From what I can tell it appears to be comeing out around the vaccum modulator somewhere.

The previous owner of the 4 door put a new modulator on and I didn't touch it when I swapped the trans to the '74, so I'm guessing a seal or something wasn't put back right. It feels loose, I can spin it by hand. :hmmm:

Also, how do I slow the shifts down some. It shifts into 2nd at about 15 and shifts into 3rd at about 25. If I'm takeing off going up a hill it boggs like crazy when it hits 3rd going that slow.

i just use good ol channel locks. just don't squeeze very hard. make sure you squeeze the uhhhh "ring" (???) where the two halves of it are joined. otherwise you may oosen up the joint between the two. once you have it snug but not superman tight, take it for a spin. the new position of the modulator (now that it is screwed in farther) may change the shifting points. :2cents: best of luck. ( i guess if you want to tighten it the right way, go out and buy the cheapest 9/16" ( i think it's a 9/16) open end and grind it kinda flat so you can get under everything to tighten it.)

You may have a push in modulator. It uses an o-ring on the nipple that goes into the transmission for the seal. It is held in by a clamp under one of the tail housing bolts.
