Just got back from seeing the races Saturday night at SIR (Saskatchewan International Raceway http://www.racesir.com/). There was a '72 Mav there that runs mid-12's with a 460 and a Pinto (sorry T.L. ) front end. Here's a pic of the car. It's apparently been dynoed at 525 hp. I also have a video clip but it's huge (13 MB) and I only get 10 MB of webspace from my ISP.
Ray, when I said Pinto front end, I was referring to the steering/suspension. It was put in to make room for the 460.
427 I know where there's a Mav that used to have a 427 in it and the guy claims he was the first ever to put a pinto front end in it. Drag raced Mavericks in the 70's which is when he did the front end. Now has a 351 and it's beautiful. Full race interior, making it streetable now. And no, I'm about 120% sure he'd never sell it.
not a bad looking car but there's something wrong with the picture to me. maybe i'm wrong but i'd think a 460 in a maverick should run better than mid 12's if it has 525 hp. my 308 runs high 11's in good air. ran 12.08 with it last weekend at almost 100 degrees.
I wasn't going to comment on that but now that Don has brought the subject up......... ......does it go "Oink"? Because it sure is a pig. :evilsmile
I'm going to assume that remark was tongue-in-cheek. I guess in my case, as someone who's been having a difficult time finding anyone nearby who even gives a crap about these cars, I thought it was cool. The owner of this car has had it since '84 but it was garaged for a number of years until he started racing it again last season. He made the comment himself that he's disappointed with his ET's and needs to work on getting them lower. I would have got pics of the engine compartment etc. but it was dark out by the time I got into the pits and found the car. Cleaver, he's still running drums on all four wheels until he can track down some disc spindles.
I think its great that you found someone nearby to share your passion with! Besides, just cause its a big block does not mean its a "screamer", even though 12's is not shabby. There is something to be said for the difference's between "glydesdales and greyhounds"
Yes, it was. Unless I go off on a technical rant, a majority of my comments are to be considered "smartass". However, if he needs any assistance please get a rundown on the car and it's equipment and I'll be more than happy to help. We have hydraulic cammed 460's around here running 10.40's. I'm sure it's something pretty basic. Good Luck!
I saw a Maverick & a Comet at the drags this weekend. The Comet was running low 14's. The Maverick was running low 12's.... I forgot to take my camera. Oh, well! My computer crashed last weekend. Been using the puter at work. I'm working on getting a new puter. I found one for $250. The guy has put $1,000 into it. It's mine on the 1st....Woohoo!!!!! Anyway, the Maverick was for sale! He didn't have a price in the window, & I never was able to catch up with him. The name of the car was "Heard Attack". The owners name is Heard....It looked black in color, but could've been dark purple. Hard to tell at night...
that car has been advertised in the national dragster. i think his name is jason heard. i know his uncle, i think it is. his name is bill heard. have raced with him at some of the big bucks races. bill drives a pinto with a big block. real nice people. i talk to him every now and then on another forum. that maverick was the division 6 national super/street champ a couple of years ago. he's from oregon.
Steve, I uploaded the video. Let me know if there is any info that you would like to add or change in the description. http://mmb.maverick.to/gallery/showimage.php?i=900&c=
