The '77 Maverick, I bought from Frank, came with a coated header, cam, and stall converter attached to the 250 ci engine. I've orderd a couple of things to improve fuel system. It shoulb be an improvement over the stock 1 bbl carb.
250 Terry get yourself a Aussie 250 head with removable intake then drop 4 barrel on that bad boy...Jim
Jim, I'm looking. They are not readily available. I just heard about a guy who paid over $450 for a very used stock one. I think it was bare. Ford Six Parts is supposedly making an aluminum head, but so far it is not available.
Hawkco, I bet you find that the carb and spacer will be too tall for your hood, I ordered that same setup for mine last year and had to turn around and order the more expensive Clifford carb adapter 65.00 cause it was shorter, but mine was using the stock air cleaner so you may get by with the smaller one........Good Luck, it will wake that 6 up!
thats cool.. seen those on fordsix when you gonna put it on? but yeah.... i'd like to know how it works! that a stovebolt adapter? or something else? holley or weber? i just debating myself to do that but the car is runnig so good know i'm affrad to do anything to it! you know if it ain't broke don't fix it!
I can't decide which is funnier - the thought of that car having a warranty or the thought of Frank offering a warranty. Hmmmm.
I'll put those parts on the car the first weekend after they get here. I bought the whole kit-'n-kabootle from Stovebolt Engine Co. (http://www.stoveboltengineco.com). I looked at this adapter and the one from Clifford. I realize this one is a little taller, but it is port matched to carb opening on the manifold. Clifford's is (or was) a little smaller at the manifold opening, but a smidge bigger at the carb opening. For $15.00 bucks, I'll try the Stovebolt adapter. If I have fitting problems and can't modify it a little, then I will buy the one Clifford. I hope I don't have to because everyone, that I've heard of, who has bought from Clifford, claims a bad experience. Here's a site where both are discussed in pretty good detail: http://home.centurytel.net/fordfan/Falcon/HW Conversion.html
terry, when do they send the other 2 barrels of the carburetor???? did you see the six cylinder on ebay that says he runs 13.1 at 99 in the 1/4 mile?
Nope. I'd be tickled with a 14.999 1/4 mile time in my '77. After I get this carb combo working, the next engine project is to have the head worked on. I have another 250 engine and I'm going to have as much work as possible done to that head.
Terry, Just a quick question. I have the '77 Mav with the 250 also. I am curious as to the make/model of the carb you took off it. Background--I bought a rebuilt Carter YFA 1 barrel carb for mine. The trouble is, now even with tweaking the idle mixture and the timing, I can get it to turn over and after turning over about 3 seconds, it tries to start, but dies. If you pump the pedal fast and furious, it will continue to try to start, but doesn't. Soo, I'm wondering if the carb is the right one, if the timing is the issue, or if this goes back to when all the vacuum lines were plugged up and disconnected/routed to all the wrong places. I got the Mitchell vac diagram off of Marks' maverickcomet.com site. I used the non Calif Automatic Trans with A/C diagram on his 1977VacuumDiagrams.pdf Page 3-221 Figure 33 I don't have the wide open throttle valve that it shows though. Can't locate one either. Bottom line---If you wouldn't mind letting me know what carb was on yours, I'd appreciate it.
Just about any year 1 bbl carb will work ... maybe yours is no good. Make sure you used new gaskets and there is no vacuum leaks. I am running a 77 carb on a 74 engine with a 70 carb spacer and it runs fine ...
Thanks for the info. I don't want to highjack Terry's post, so I put a new post out there regarding my problem. Still curious as to what his carb make and model is. Ralph
