the only prob is i need the end of the head free from anything...so i can put my alternator mounting plate on it.... this was the reason i swapped the heads over in the first place....and i suppose i could shove a rod all the way in and cut it a little shorter than the head is long....that way it will be recessed in the head and wont hurt anything...but will it completely seal off the hole..?

That's the idea with measuring the length needed. Measure the length of the head then subtract whatever length is needed to clear the bolt in that particular hole. It will seal the hole....if you get the right size rod.

i just thought of something about the heads and now i have air ports connecting the exhaust ports.....if i dont block it.....exhaust gases will go into a cylinder that has the valve open.....

now...say i have an air pump conencted and working....then these air ports are all connected together and the gases all intermix... will this be the same without an air pump on there and there is nothing to worry about ? or will the exhaust gases go into a cylinder that has an open valve...i suppose the only valve open anyways is the exhaust valve...i am just concerned that somehow the exhaust gases mix with the intake gases and cause some major problems....but if this was a problem, then they wouldnt have done the air ports to begin with...

i guess my paranoid side is worrying too much again

i guess i should just get a rod and plug up the passages...

exhaust entering the intake is nothing new. That's what EGR does. It uses a solenoid connected to some tubing and a valve, that allows some exhaust gases to enter the intake stream...supposedly helps reduce oxides of nitrogen (emissions gas...a.k.a. NOx).

so it wont hurt anything if i leave the air ports open...... they all connect to each exhaust port... all i am doing is trying to figure out the quickest and cheapest way to get the car running again....

if i have to buy some used heads i may have to....but i am trying alternatives first

    thanks

get a plug for the back of the heads and go about your business. The outside is already plugged right?

    Port'n go...

ok..new development......the air ports feed into the EGR port...which i thought was a water passage.... a friend says..just plug off the egr port on the heads

advantage..keep the intake cooler since you arent running EGR...

    thoughts? thanks

Yeah you can take some sheet metal and cut to fit just inside the hole in the gaskets. With the gaskets on the heads the metal should stay in place until you get the intake manifold on. If it doesn't you might try gluing them to the heads.

Hey I got an idea. How about getting some new heads.:yup:

Too bad your not closer to me, I've got a good set of E7's ready to be ported. Shipping would be more than the heads are worth though.
