I need someone to measure the length of a 1973 front bumper "shock". The piece between the frame and the bumper itself. Switching from 74 to 73 and would like to use the 74 "shocks" if possible. The 73 shocks were unusable. Also, if I wanted to slide the bumper in couldn't the shock be pressed in to shorten it up? Was looking at littleredtoy's post and was wondering how it was done. littleredtoy, thanks for all of your help.
I would more than glad to do it for you...except it is raining. It has basically been raining for over two weeks. Maybe 20 hours of sunshine in the last two weeks. Sunny Sounth? Where? I think Ray (courier11sec) has sent the Seattle weather here. My fault...all those jokes about his avatar.
he does have a disturbing avatar!:chillpill Though hawko, your daughter is adorable but the dogs run and hide when they see the other half of your avatar.
Your welcome. Sorry, I don't have the measurement. I tossed the '74 bumper stuff. As I told you it bolted right up and I think the fed govt. dictated how far the bumper had to be out front. I would guess that they are the same. Seth
Seth, I have another question. Now that I have all of the 73 parts sitting in front of me, how in the world did you drill/line up the holes for the bumper extensions on the rear. There are five holes to drill for each filler and it is in an area that is not flat. Looks like a tricky one. It is either the rainy season in GA or Hawkco is out creating another avatar.:16suspect
Measuring from mounting point on the bumper to the rear most part of the"shock" is approx 16 1/2 inches That would the longest measument I could find. I measured drivesside outside framerail on my 73 4 door. There that should be clear as mud. Russ
Today was the first day where there was not a drop of rain in nearly three weeks. I'm glad Russ has gotten your measurement. I'm afraid if I laid down in the mud, my nosey anonymous neighbor would report that I now had a pig farm.
maybe they would think you were growing mavericks in your yard, a new breed of animal-maverickporkers!! I say splash mud on the noisy neighbor and tell them to mind their own business!!
Russ, measuring the 74 from the plate that bolts to the bumper (not including the thickness of the plate) to the longest point is 16.5 inches. It sounds like it is the same. Thanks for the help. Hawkco, mud is great for the complexion!
