Okay, it has the emblem on the dash "Maverick" and the taillights are Maverick and the air breather says Maverick, but the hood has a small rectangle emblem which I assume is a Comet, sooooo maybe someone just replaced the hood??

    It is a Maverick then.

    Comet hood (notice the lip):

Maverick hood ('73 only front bumper):

If someone swapped to a Comet hood they would more then likely have swapped the Comet grill and front bumper to get it to look right, but who knows.

    Hope this helps. :)

I called the guy I am buying the Mav from and this is the VIN he gave me: 0x911378750. I thought the 5th number was supposed to be a letter ?????

Comets were not made until 1971. That VIN number dosen't look right for some reason. Orange car posted by Jamie is a good example of a Comet hood, grille and bumper also Mercury badge on the front of the hood. I think that the holes in the dash for the Comet sign and Maverick sign are different. Hope this helps.

hey ya'll, my first car may be floating around somewhere. It was a comet front clip with a maverick rear clip.

My gut feeling after seeing it says 1970 with a Comet hood and grill, and a big front bumper stuck on it.

Nice car either way. Looks good! (y)

Thats a MUTT of a Maverick if I've ever seen one! I think Jamie is right ... I would guess the front end was totalled at some point and they replaced the entire front end with a late model Comet front end. I'm curious how they attached the front bumper?

Of course it could be a late model Comet and the rear end was totalled and replaced with an early model Maverick ...

The black engine compartment and 69/70 sill plates give it away as a Maverick though ..

could be a clip. cut near top of windshield and seam on floor. welded together. It's not my old one but same effect.

You can tell by the door sill plates that it is a 1970.

The door sill plates on our '74 look the same? :hmmm: Guess it's possible they been changed. The interior has been redone at some point.
