my 302 is out of an 88 t-bird. Since I have the transmission out right now, I am also replacing the flexplate and harmonic balancer as I think they arent the correct ones for my motor. meaning they have the 28oz. imbalance rather than the 50oz. which is what I need. when I put this motor together I used a few parts that were just laying around and dont know what years 302 they were for.....The whole point of replacing these now is because I'm trying to track down an rpm related vibration that my motor has. Either I have the wrong parts on there or the harmonic balancer supn on me?

Is it possible for me to get a flexplate new with the 50oz imbalance, 164 teeth and 10.5 converter bolt cirlce? the reason I ask is that the parts store cant tell me how many teeth or bolt pattern without ordering it to find out.....

I checked my current flexplate today and it has 164 teeth but an 11.4 bolt circle. I'd like to put one on with 10.5 so I can buy a used 2300 TCI converter from someone on the board.

If anyone has a 50.oz blancer and flexplate used, feel free to PM me.

sorry for rambling on here, I just dont know enough about these things, so I have to ask:rolleyes:

if you have an 88 302 the correct balancer is a 50 ounce. in 1981 they changed from 28 to 50. tci has a flexplate in the summit catalog for sbf 157, tooth, 50 ounce balance for $59.95. summit also ha a summit brand oem harmonic balancer for 81 and up for $81.95 hope this helps.:)i just reread the post. i think all the 157 tooth flexplates are 10.5 and the 164 flex plates are 11.5. if you have the 164 flex plate you have the large bellhousing, which requires a 11.5 flexplate so you would have to have the larger torque convertor, not the 10.5. if you want the smaller tc you need to change to the smaller flexplate and also change the bellhousing and the engine plate.

    thanks for clearing that up:)

if you changed from 164 to 157, can you stick with the same starter? I know its not a big difference in teeth. I was just wondering if the starter teeth would still line up

well since I have the larger bellhousing and 164 tooth flywheel, I guess I cant buy this used TCI converter:cry: That bums me out.

well I guess if anyone has a used higher stall converter for sale with 11.5 bolt circle, drop me a line.

There is a 164 flexplate available with the 10.5 bolt pattern, cannot find the info right now but Mavman may have it. Have seen them drilled for both patterns also.
