I'm thinking of buying a 70 coupe mustang as a donor car for my 72 Maverick grabber clone project. The mustang is very rusty, just to put that aside. It has a 302 c4 with disc brakes, power steering, 9 inch rear, air, tilt away steering. Can anyone help with what I can use? I'd like to have 5 lug wheels. Any and all help would be appresiated. Thanks Tim:huh:

Buy it if the price is right the 9" and disc will work just fine. The power steering will work but just the hydraulic section. I'm sure you can find other stuff that you can use.

I had always thought the 9" from a 70 Mustang was wider than a Maverick rear.

Pretty sure it is wider....but not enough to matter. I think it is overall about an inch wider. Dont know about the spring perch width. Anyone know for sure??

I have a 70 Mustang 9" in my Mav. It's almost 2" wider than the Mav rear, I just use wheels that are offset 1" more to the inside. The spring perches are the same distance apart.

all else fails....you can get the 9 inch shortened or pads moved...but i would certainly take out the engine tranny....rebuild them maybe,.,.,get the 9inch fixed up and the disc brakes and 5 lugs conversion done....

    More help?

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know if the Mustang automatic floor shifter will fit, or should I find one from a Maverick? I was also thinking of doing a mini tub in the rear to get a wider tire (245/60/15) under it. I really don't want to move springs. Does anyone know how far I can move them in :hmmm:? Thanks Tim

Mustang floor shift should be just about the same. You do not need to minitub for 245 60 15" tires. With the right wheel back spacing. I run 275 60 15" on an 8" wide rim and they are tucked up under the wheel well and I still have 3/4 inch to spare on inner side to the spring. Hope this helps
