well im heading out to pick up my new 302 to swap my 250 for, hoping to be able to finish the rebuild by the end of summer. never rebuilt an engine so tips and pointers would be nice, also i need a listof all the parts ill need to do the swap. Im putting a comp cams 268H in it with hooker 6901 headers, holley 650 cfm carb, and a weiand stealth intake. I havent decided on a set of heads yet any recommendations to get some good power without sacrificin a lotta gas mileage? am i missin anything that ill need to change if i put those on? im going to be backin that up with a t5 that im going to rebuild.

Lots will depend on other factors that you will need to consider before setting up the engine with what you have stated. If you are leaving the factory gears in the diff (are they 2.79's) then I would suggest going with Comp cam #31-242-3, this is a split duration cam and if leaving the heads stock (unported), the small block Ford loves to have more on the exhaust due to the restrictions. This cam does like a little more gear in the diff though but will still produce good results. As for the carb I wouldn't go anything over a 600cfm Holley or a 625cfm Edelbrock, a 650cfm is too much carb for these engines unless you have a lot more done to them. The whole trick to setting up an engine is to make it breathe efficiently, from the intake through the exhaust. The headers and the intake are an excellent choice. For heads stay with the earlier units as the chamber sizes are smaller (a wise idea though is to convert to adjustable rockers no matter what heads you get). Port matching the heads is a cheap way to get a little more breathing out of the heads or go with full porting if the coin allows it. If you really want to get into some nice heads you can purchase a set of Edelbrocks that will be ready to install. In regards to what you will need for the swap, are you getting the engine out of another donor Maverick/Comet or just getting the block?
the engine is out of a maverick but i bought it from someone that doesnt have the mounting stuff anymore just the engine. I believe the gears are 2.79s i dont really know anything bout the gears or nethin i dun even know anything bout rebuildin the engine im fairly new to this stuff and im kind of learning as i go.
