My new Comet

    Hi all I just bought a Comet and i can't wait to start fixing it up with my son, I love this car already. The top is trashed , has anyone ever just striped the vinyl off and painted the top instead? any help would be real cool. thanks

    :Welcome: to the board, a father and son project is a great bonding thing. I have taken a few tops off in my day...oh!!!!! you ment car tops!!1 lol, yeah that too. getting the glue off can be a chore but is doable with a good scrapper. I always use a spray can of adhesive remover. breaks it down so its easier...A razor blade is good for trimming tight spots, just be careful take your time and you can have it smooth and ready to paint...Jim(y)

    Top can be removed and painted. Done by more than a few people.
    Family projects are great!!!!!
    Take plenty of pictures of the process and share them with us.....we luv pictures!

    Welcome to the board. Good advice above on removing the top and glue. Yeah, go ahead and paint it. Replacing the vinyl gets pretty pricey. Cost me $400.00 5 years ago on mine.

    he doesnt help me much anymore....

    Nice to see yet another Comet, may be just me seems to be more Comets on here lately
    What year is it, looks like close to a '74 it also seems like a lot of '74 Comets , maybe they were a high production year ?
