I just got the new JC Whitney catalog and it has radio by custom autosound. These radios look like the real thing but the insides are a lot better. They have listed Comet from 69-77, but not Mavericks.

I though the radios are interchangeable. Does anybody know. I'm thinking of getting one.

Why bother? Modern day radios fit well with very little modification.

I like knobs, plus I don't want to cut up a factory radio plate. The radios are the same from Comet to maverick :)

You shouldn't have any problem installing one of those radios. All the Ford OEM radios of the '70s in the DIN style were interchangeable. Actually, all radios of any era are interchangeable within their particular make. There are only several radios today which are model specific, like the ones in the current generation Taurus for example.

    thank you Wes

Wes, thank you very much for the am/fm stereo. although I personally am not using it in my 70, my dad sure is gonna love it in the four door. Just wanted to say thanks again!! And yes, newer stereos do look nice in old bezels, with the help of a machinist of course!!:D

What I found when I went to install a Custom Auto Sounds unit in my 72 Maverick was yes the knobs were placed the same as all other Ford cars of that era, but the face/dial opening was different than other Fords. In fact the Maverick face opening is unique & all to its' own & there lies the reason that the Comet is not interchangeable, as well as with other Fords of that era.

I did not what to hear that! OK will a comet face plate fit into a mav? Mine's a 75. If not I guess I can machine it down.
