    I agree with Max Power.
This is 2005. If you are truely going for a 1970s theme, then you'd better get rid of all the modern performance parts and upgrades on the car. You have an 8-track tape player in your Maverick too? Better get rid of that CD player, since it's not '70s. Sidepipes just don't look good on a Maverick....any Maverick. They didn't look good in the '70s, and they darn sure aren't gonna look good in the 2000s. What kind of clothes are you gonna wear while driving your Maverick? Platform shoes and a plad liesure suit? How about Bell-bottom trousers? Shirts with big collars? That was all "politically correct" in the '70s as well. If you were going to put your Maverick in a museum, it would make sense, but not on something that will be driven around town. But this is America, so if you like 'em, then by all means have them on your car...

I have a stock motor and I'm dual 2 1/4 inch exhust pipes, regular bends and, dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers, It works well for what I have but eventually I'll go with headers, and an X pipe, and Manderal Bends. But that won't be tell I actually need it. I'd diffinately agree with most of the other guys on this forum. No need for 3" exhust unless your a big diesel truck. Your exhust system have needs to match your car and application. 2.5" - 2" exhust is all you really need for a 302. If its manderal bent thats all the better flow rate, as regular bends just put in major bottle necks every place you need a bend. X pipes and H pipes help flow as they exualize gas pressure on both sides. X pipes are even known to suck exhust out at higher RPM's. Putting on to big of exhust system, that isn't very restrictive will hurt back pressure. So basicly the wilder your motor, you want to remove restrictions with things like, headers, bigger pipes, manderal bends and x pipes and high flow mufflers.

My Maverick will not end up in a museum with it's sidepipes, but hopefully, it will look like it belongs in one.

I had a friend, back in the seventies, with a white on black Comet GT, with sidepiped. Was a beautiful car, that would still look good today. He bought the car new with the pipes on it. Not too loud, and a really good car. If the pipes are quiet and tastefull, nothing wrong with them. It is your car!!!

550 HP sounds kinda weak for a cummins turbo diesel. I assume you are making a joke about driving a semi-rig. I thought they put out more horses than that.

    Thanks to all!
The reason whay Im asking this question is the low price for 3" mandrel bends and pipes. This is came from old food factory, rustfree and this 20 kg sack cost to me less then 60 dollars :). But now I go to the exhaust shop and by one 2,5" or 2 1/4" mandrel bent from the same price. Thats the story.
    Great, so many reply's!

    side pipes

I had a 66 mustang with Thrush (remember them) side pipes, darn thing sounded great runnin tru the streets of my home town. I myself like the look and the sound of a good set of sidepipes. But sence they still use glass pac cores tenn. won't let them pass inspection, not in memphis anyway. But if I could find some with turbo tube muffler cores I would have a set on my 72 real quick. The whole idea of bein a Maverick is being different than the rest of the herd. Our cars show our individual likes and dislikes. There is no set mold . I bought mine to enjoy and mold it into what JIM thinks is cool. Yall have a great day...I'm goin drivin....Jim(y)

I did drive tractor-trailer for a living but missed out on the first childs early years so I quit when my second came along. And by the way 550 hp is above the average for diesels! most run about 350hp. remember with a diesel, It's All about the torque and the gear ratio. the International I drove did have a 550 hp cummins turbodiesel with a 13 speed and 3.55 rears and it would definately let you know it!!!:D When you can climb fancy gap with 78,000lbs gross at 60 mph, thats puttin it to the ground!!!!(y) "LOVED THOSE SHINY STOVEPIPES!!!":D

My dad was a diesel mechanic for years, and I just assumed (incorrectly) that since diesels have such high compression and large displacement, and the one in question was turbo'd, that it would be more around 600 or 700 HP.

Of course, I admit, I am not a diesel expert. Hell, come to think of it, I am not a Maverick expert, either!

Diesels like that top out at about 3000 rpm. They are all torque.
