We just got back from our Nation's capitol last night. For those of you who aren't aware, there is a large permanent memorial to all the fallen police officers across the nation that was established right in the heart of DC several years ago. This is attended by literally thousands of active and retired officers, their families and supporters, and the surviving families of the fallen officers. There is a large celebration of their sacrifice and services every year. This always comes several days before May 15 which is the day of memory to these fallen officers. During the festivities, there is a large vigil on Friday night followed Saturday morning by a HUGE motorcycle procession attended by all who support law enforcement starting in Baltimore, heading to RFK Stadium to pick up a second wave of bikes and ending at the memorial. A parade follows later in the afternoon. The PoliceMav took part in these as possibly the only Maverick police car to ever do so. I am now part of an organization called the Historic Police Car Honor Guard. We attend various events across largely the eastern states at this time and help in events like funerals for officers and attend other shows also. We also promote the preservation of police cars of the past up to the early '90s. The PoliceMav was warmly accepted into this fraternity at the start and has been a hit with the public that has been able to see it at the events that we have taken it to so far. The police officers that have seen it all love it. It gives me a sense of pride and humlilty that I have been able to place a Maverick into this growing fraternity within the collector car community. This weekend the Maverick community can also be proud that a part of our brotherhood did a very noble thing. The entire community of our's was represented in a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep the public trust. We honored those that walk the "Thin Blue Line".
Way to Go Wes, I have two brother-in-laws who work in law enforcement..the younger one has risked his life more than once(almost died from smoke inhalation from saving a child, for one) Thankfully, we have been lucky, but we realize that lots of other families have lost their heroic loved ones...You made us ALL proud!
good job Good Job Wes...my youngest sister was a officer in Dumas Arkansas, She was shot 3 times in a drug house bust. she almost died twice. She is now retired from the force because of those wounds. Yall have a tough job to do, my prayers are with you all...Jim
My hat is off to you Wes. Our local news station ran a story about the police memorial and it showed the wall with all the names of fallen officers who lost thier lives while protecting ours. Two officers from Bradford County, Pa were slain on the job last year, and Bush mentioned thier names while addressing the crowd. It was a very touching tribute. You and the Police Mav make us all very proud.
There is now a recent pix of the PoliceMav in the member's gallery. Thanks for the support. You have no idea how much I appreciate it and how much it means.
