finally.. got the motor and trans out of the 4 dr.. gonna try my hand at rebuilding. anyone got ideas or tips? thinking just gonna keep it stock.. dont really have money for anything else. its a 6 cyl 250. gonna ahve the head head sent off and redone. but beyond that.. im fresh outta ideas. i wanna get gas mileage and keep up with traffic.. its a 4 dr so im not looking to make a racer or anything. im going to basically just make it original with very few modifications. although i am going to remove the ac(doesnt work anyways) will i have to change the alt bracket for this? ill post pics of my progress when i get another disposable camera. thanx in advance for all your help

have hardened exhaust valve seats installed (so ya can run unleaded without that annoying bottle of additive kickin' in the trunk). maybe new valves/pushrods/rockers (depends on condition). clean clean clean clean your block after ya get it back, same with the head.

ya go ahead and rebuild it, YOU CAN DO IT. I've got a chltons 64-71 if that helps. also got an almost new 2core radiator that i dont need.

are ya gona get tranny work done? what tranny?
if ya can find a replacement cam that'd be a good investment. definatly new timing chain, rebuilt dist. rebuild yer carb, it's fun.

    good luck

Does the 75 need hardened valve seats? My 74 has over 100k miles on it, never been touched.

I think the hardened valve seats came in the early 70s, but I'm not certain. I need to find out anyway, got a 69-70 351 in line...

I've been running regular old 87 straight from the pump in our '74 for over 1,500 miles and haven't had a problem.

well hos long can you have it down for....how much money do you have..... the best bet is...since you have it out already go ahead and rebuild it all..

but thats my opinion.....if you rebuild it, you wont have to worry about the engine for another 15 -30 years

    good luck
