Bruce; if you have an AutoKrafters catalogue, go to page 34, and the part# for your car is: 1261, coil is: 40511. Hope this helps.:)

DM am I correct I use my existing Distributor , and just replace the points with this module, DO I need a new coil, module or anything else , mine is a 74, this link refers to dates up to '73, will this work on my '74 250?

Some 74's had an early type of non-Duraspark Electronic ... If you have points you need the part I linked to. You will need to also buy one of their coils for additional juice. You reuse your original Distributor and need no other parts ...

Ah Sensai you have the patience of a saint, thanks for the info, any thing I can tell by looking at my distributor, other than removing the cap to tell if it is the earlier non duraspark set up?

It would have an external box like a Duraspark ..

If you got points, just get the Ignitor I for 73 and older models. It replaces the points and condenser. Takes about ten minutes to install and comes with decent directions. The ignitor I will work with your existing coil and with the factory resistor wire to that coil. The Ignitor II will not, so just get the I.

Earl, how did you come up with that coil part #? Looks to me that the mustang ultd lists the #40011 coil instead. Thanks much.

Ive used both also, I like the Duraspark because you can buy parts for it anywhere and its a hot spark, I gap my plugs at .045 when I use it. I like Pertronix because it is simpler to install, but the original Pertronix doesnt give any hotter spark than the original points gap @ .035, just makes everything more consistent. Now they have the Pertronix II which is supposed to have a hot spark when used with the matching coil. I havent tried it yet, but it will be what I put on the next one.

What kind of ignition would a 76 Mav had come with? I just picked up a shell of a 76' and the wiring harness and "box" is mounted on the firewall but it says nothing on the box. I want to trash the points on the 74' Grabber, would it be a good move to find a 76 or compatible distributor and swap this box and wire harness over?

Haven't had any problems with the points, but I think they are contributing to my missfire at idle. And I like the idea of a hotter spark.

xps; the AutoKrafters catalogue said that was the coil that went with that particular part# for the Ignitor. It says that the chrome coil # is: 40501, and the black coil is: 40511. These are for the Pertronix coils. I personally use the Accel coil (yellow) and found that it works very well, and have had no problems with it. Hope this helps.:)

I think 77 was the first year of the DuraSpark ... 75 & 76 had "solid-state" ignition ... Check your Chiltons ... they are all described in there ...
