Any time a ring and pinion have an even ratio there are marks on ring gear and pinion..I have a71-77 8" Maverick rear end . The mark on pinon is painted and ground. There is no paint mark left on ring gear. There is avery small notch on inner edge of ring gear between two teeth. Could anyone tell me if this is the timing mark. You can email me at harleyman@route24.net

    Timing Mark

I Beleive It Is A Index Mark So When You Take It Apart You Can Mesh The Gears Back In The Same Place A Non-hunting Will Always Mesh With The Same Teeth A Hunting Gear Set Will Mesh With All The Teeth At One Time Or Other

I thought I was in trouble. All the 9" rear ends we've changed out around here and no timing marks ever checked. lol
