Well, wouldn't you know it! Took the Comet out today. Went to the college to visit the Automotive instructors. When I turned the key off, it kept running & sounded like the starter was engaged. Put it in gear to kill it. Did some checking with a test light. Found out the starter switch went TU...
Which means, taking the lower dash out, & dropping the steering column. Just to gain access to it....GRRRRRRR!
Got the switch in 2 hours. If I don't count the time waiting for the part, it was an hour & a half fix. Not bad, considering I was in a parking lot. Hate when stuff like that happens away from home. When I did my tuneup last week, I also replaced the starter solenoid & voltage regulator. Hopefully all the bugs are worked out now. Car shows are just around the corner....

I actually have a similar problem. When I turn my car off and take the Key out of the ignition the car keeps on running. But I don't have any problem with the starter sticking, and this only happens sometimes. Most of the time it'll turn off when I turn the key back and take it out. I noticed the key is really loose in the ignition, so I'll probably need to replace that. Has anyone else had the same problem? and is this a hard thing to replace?

Sounds like the solenoid switch on the fender apron, next to the battery. Mine went, and I had to disconnect the battery to shut the thing off. BTW, get a switch at NAPA, or a good auto parts store. AutoZone and Advance stuff is very cheap, and you may have to go through a few to get a good one. I installed and took off 3 before I got a good one. Went to NAPA, first one worked, and is still on there. Good luck!

That happen to me and I could not get the key in. I ruined the ignition and the collar. I ended up calling a locksmith to get it out. Than I replaced the collar and ignition. That was when I was going to work in the morning. Was 2 hours late. Save yourself and get it fix fast.

Yeh Coop replaneing those ignition switch are just rosey. But good job in a parking. It could be worse try a fuel pump at Wal-mart.

My tranny linkage broke while IN a parade a few years ago........just went into reverse and stayed there....I had to push it up a hill and chock a wheel with one of my boots.....was NOT funny at the time......Now I can look back and smile... Preston
