is there gas in the tank? does it start and then immediatly shut off? or does it shut off while driving down the road...?

we need you to give us some more specifics and what you have looked at to try and fix it..

there could be a blockage in the fuel line... dirt or metal particles....etc...blocking the fuel line.... then it frees up and then the fuel starts to flow and it blocks the fuel line again

    good luck

Its not the sending unit. All that does is let you know how much gas is in the tank. Odds are its the gas pump that is bad.

i'd agree. most likely the fuel pump. but have you made sure it has fuel in the tank and take the line off the carb. then crank the engine over. this way you can see if the pump is working. use a container to catch the fuel. also check the fuel filter. :)

Tom; with the car stopped, move the throttles and see if the car gets gas. If not, and if it won't idle, check the ignition box. I had a '77 that did the same thing. Just quit, with no warning, and it sputtered to a stop. The DuraSpark box was shot. If all else fails, give it a try.

Wellllllll.....you need to rebuild the carb! If the float sticks, it could be from a variety of things. Most likely trash in the bowl, coming from the tank. Pull the top off the carb and see what is inside. Clean it out, and clean the needle and seat. Make sure the float is adjusted well, and put it back together. If it runs good, get a kit and work the carb. Most important...get an inline fuel filter. Good luck!

The float shouldn't need to be replaced unless it has a hole in it. In that case the carb would be overflowing. The needle and seat is what the float controls and needs to be replaced.

    Just F.Y.I...
