Will swapping to a 302 affect the value of my Maverick?

I keep hearing mixed opinions from around my town, about whether or not swapping a V-8 into my Maverick is a good idea. Some say it will just kill the resale. My response is that it ain't for sale anyway. :p But I mean really, what do ya'll think? Will it A- Hurt the value B- Add to the value, or C- Not change one way or the other. I really don't plan to ever sell the car, if for no other reason than because it's my first car. So I'm gonna try and post a poll, and then ya'll all let me know what you think, or what your reasons were for doing your cars like ya'll did. Thanks, I just need a godd morale boost(Especially since my body repair shop couldn't get the right color paint to fix my door- read the post in Cosmetics) Thanks Everybody, Preston

First of all, Resale price sucks no matter what. Now ask yourself, if I had to start all over would I want a mav with a 302 or a mav with a Inline 6. If your like most of the rest of the world you are gonna want that V8.

It will go up, definitely. An I6 Maverick is the bottom tier, there is less market for an original I6 car than there is for a swapped V8 car, except in very special cases.

According to the NADA books, the 8 cylinder value is higher than the 6. Doing a swap in a base Mav/Comet shouldn't hurt the resale. The only time you absolutely shouldn't do any swaps, if value is your consideration, is with a limited production version. My Stallion came with a 250 and since they are so relatively rare, I opted to do a showroom restore to preserve the value. Now, the original value point is less of a concern to some, Like Dan, who modified his Stallion. Neither way is wrong. It is just whether you want to preserve the originality of the vehicle or not and if the value is a concern. Now, somone might want to pay more for Dan's modified Stallion than mine because of what they want in a vehicle. In the resale biz, it is a combination of resale value, market conditions, demand and rarity, and what someone is willing to pay. This is a main reason why some who have restored a vehicle and/or modified it have been in for a rude awakening when they couldn't get close to either it's book value or what they invested in it, or any offers at all! There's a lot you have to take into consideration these days before you open your wallet to restore/modify anything.

I'd personally pay more for a V8 Maverick even if not original since I'd would do the swap myslef anyway. By having the swap already done it will have saved me alot of hassle.

    V8 yes!

I would certainly pay more for the v8 car because inevitably it is going to have a v8 so why waste more money on a car where i would put the v8 into anyway? just my .02:D

Depends on what the buyer is looking for. If they want a car that is completely original (or original restoration) and numbers matching, then it will devalue the car, however if they are looking for performance and practicality, a V-8 can only increase its value...

First of all unless your car is a VERY limited production it's resale is going to suck. second of all if your going to keep the car do you want a car with a 6 get a new car. Half the fun of owning a MUSCLE car is that you get crappy gas mileage and but can haul ass. GO FOR THE V8 :p

    Re

I agree with everone else. put the 302 in it. YOu can always keep the 6 and put it in if someone wants to give you more for it that way, Which i dont think will happen.

    Now for the second question:

"Will topping a 302 with a 6-71 blower sticking out of the hood, Hillborne scoop and SuperChiller intercooler affect the value of my Maverick?"

hehahahahha Who cares? I like it! (The cops on the other hand...)
