    After a year and a half of trying to make the original 35 year old paint look good on my Mav I've given up.
    It's time to break down and JUST DO IT. The paint is gonna be the same colors.
    I'm gonna do the prep work my self and try to do the actual painting too. If I can't get it right I'll carry it to a pro.
    Any one got any tips on the stainless trim removal ? It's in pretty good shape and I don't want to bugger it up.

    I got the engine, interior and trunk to a point I can live with. The seats are being reupholstered in a couple of weeks, yup...the same blue and plaid.:D
    I like it that way :coco:

    Really lookin good Rick - as far as your question on trim, here is a thread that has details and the picture of the tool I use.

    I'd send it to you to use, but the shipping back and forth would be as much as just buying one. There only like $10 or so. Any parts store should have one. Mine always goes to the junkyard with me, incase I find some good trim to pull.

    Do a search for more trim removal threads. there are a bunch on here.

    Eric thx for the tip on the tool, NAPA was out of so I ordered it, it will be well worth it if it saves my trim.
    Thx for the encouragement yall...it wasn't too long ago I would never have attempted this...I just didn't have the patience for it, having a car as a hobby will teach you patience if you want something to be proud of.

    Rick, painting is not hard really. If you can have someone to coach you while you are doing it the first time it really helps. You will do a nice job and cant wait to see it.

    Out with the old... while I'm prepping the fenders I decided to do the disk brake conversion, one thing led to another and now I'm replacing the steering and suspension components, except for the strut rods and sway bar.
    What looks like rust in the pic is actually the hardest substance to clean known to man,
    Georgia red dirt and grease:eek:... rust would have been easier to get rid of.. ;)

    6 hours of cleaning and 30 minutes of painting later, I'm only halfway done with the first side...:oops:
