8in of snow in Arkansas, can't see the Mav's out there. Whoa is me, born in Montana, raised in Nebraska, moved to Arkansas to get away from the white stuff. Can't race, guess I'll get the old 9N Ford out and do some plowing, could be worse I guess, like back east. Just had to vent some anger today. Now where did I put that Jack Daniel's(medicinal purposes only)
Howdy, i'm considering having a guy down in Arkansas do some intake manifold work for me!! How close are you to Arkadelphia??
Arkadelphia I'm about 90mi NE of there, you must be going to Kieth Kraft's. Good work done there, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Has about 300 Ford engines waiting for upgrade etc. Place is clean as an operating room. Puts on special races at our track once and awhile. Kieth is a circle track man but has a good staff of drag race guru's. Am impressed with your car numbers at the track, are you on the bottle or just motor? You must be pulling 2to3 G"s off the line. Good stuff Maynerd
Also Old Guy we didn't get 8 in of snow but we did get 1-2 in of ice. Everything is shut down around DFW. I do have enough kerosenne to heat my shop up today though so my day off from work is not totally lost. Good luck with the snow and the medicinal JD.
Thanks for the compliments on the car, I am very proud of her!!! The car has run a best of 7.19 on the motor and 6.35 @112 mph on the NOS, all I run is 1/8th mile! The car feels good off the line but I am still dealing with some major traction issues, you can tell by the 60 ft. and the mph. My 60" times suck!! The guy i'm thinking about letting do the intake is Jim Kuntz at Kuntz & Company, i've heard good things about him!! Runum, the engine is a 347 Stroker, c4 tranny and 9" w/ 4.56 gears......my class runs on a 26 x 10 slick, maximum size!!
Dude! You have got to be turning some RPM's on the juice with that kind of gear and that short tire. What have you done to the chassis and how much does you ride weigh?
I usually shift at 7000 rpm., but I've been known to take her to 7400 every now and then . I try to keep the rpm's down to help with longevity and lengthen times between freshening up. Remember, this car is only set up for 1/8th mile, i've never run the 1/4. The 1/8th mile seems to be easier on parts and is real popular here in the South. The subframe is tied in with connectors and I have an 8 point roll cage w/ race harnesses. Last time I weighed the car it was 3020 lbs. with me in the car and a half tank of gas(Approx. 7 gallons). I have taken some weight out of it this winter so I will end up putting some ballast weight in the trunk to make the 3000 lb. minimum. Should see some good 5 second passes this year, how deep into the fives is yet to be seen just FYI- The cylinder heads are Edelbrock Victor Jr. with some SERIOUS portwork and the cam is a .644" lift solid roller. You're saying "MAXIMUM" of 10" slicks - are you running 10"s? The reason I ask is that it looks like I can only get a 9" wides under the fender wells and outside of the springs on mine. I'll probably do the Louisville Slugger or fender cutouts - else mini-tub which I don't want to do now. I have a similar set up (347c.i. NOS, C4, 456 and 411's, 9" rear). I suspected traction would be a problem - especially on 9"'s. What width and back-space wheels are you running? Thanks, Rick ----------------- Pass the JD, Dave. No snow, but it's cold here in H'Town too! - 30's.
YEs, the biggest slick we are allowed to run in SSCA Real Street is a 26x10 slick. Must say 26x10 on the sidewall..... The 10" is very tight but it fits, I had to grind slightly on my leaf springs to make room. My rear rim size is a 15 x 9 w/ 4.25" backspacing. I have changed leaf springs so I am wondering if I will need to clearance again, I also had to use the Louisville slugger in the wheel well. I imagine you will have some traction issues, cant' put that much power to a stock leaf spring car and expect it to handle it. You'll definitely need some kind of posi unit, i'm running a full spool and you will want to start thinking about some cal trac bars. When you want to get real serious let me know and i'll get you the number for Flex a Form, they are the people that made my new fiberglass leaf springs. Some other things that will help your car hook up are taking weight out of the front, putting a "loose" spring and perch up front and good shocks all the way around!!!
Glass springs Would also appreciate the #'s for those springs, the Mav has a similiar setup as yours in the rear except running 10.5 tires. Traction is always an issue, some is the track and others is the 351W. Went to a 1.76 glide trans and 4.56 rear and still blowing them off. Coil over and ladder bars are in the future plans. Use 90/10's up front and put a 1/2in spacer under the shock mount on the tower to get the extension quicker, seems to help some. Use reg shocks on rear, just seems to need more tire patch to get it to hook like it should. Got 1/2in ice this morning so looks like no track time this week??? I run 9in MT's on the Fairmont and with a 302 C4 and 4.86 gear am getting a 7.14 to 7.18 1/8th et. Use a Mav rear spring setup and 90/10 struts in front, anyone know if the std. brake cyl. adapter for the 79-83 stangs will work for the mont? Fox body car also, need to get rid of those power brakes to try and get it out of the hole quicker.
