hey guys....just ordering new front end stuff...
i was on the phone with the local parts house.
it seems that they have 2 different upper ball joints for the mav. and they want a production date.
i have a 69 1/2 and i am putting granada spindles on it.

i know all these guys are doing that granada disc brake swap, but i assume its with non-69.5 models....just because there are less of them out there.

will this make a difference with my conversion?
or should i just get the upper ball joint that fits my particular car and put the granada spindles on and try it? i dunno....should work.....right?

It's different because the 69.5 still had falcon suspension components on it. I don't know if any of that fits the granada spindles or not. If not and you've got the budget, you can replace the whole setup with the regular Mav parts and then you won't have a problem.

Old Mustangs and first year Mavs had ball joints that were held on to the control arm with 4 bolts. 70 and later cars had 3-bolt ball joints. Don't think the studs that go into the spindles were any different. You just need to tell the parts house if your upper ball joints are 3-bolt or 4-bolt. I think either will fit the Granada spindles. You can be our guinnea pig.:D

I have a 69.5 also and have disc brakes, they are the same except for the bolt pattern that holds them on. A 69.5 has 4 bolts or rivets that hold the ball joint on, the spindle shaft is the same.

I would suggest replacing the upper c. arm when you do the swap.

yeah....i was considering a new upper arm from Global West, i believe...but they wanted like 600 bucks for both upper tubular a-arms with the ball joints.........a bit too much in my opinion..

You can get a upper A-arm for a 1973 Mustang....it would be the same. Any Mustang place would have one. I would recommend getting a kit. Includes both upper a-arms...fully assembled with all new parts...and lower control arms........all new parts. Kits are around $300 I believe.

I got my upper A-arm assemblies for $150 from CJ Pony Parts. This included both A-arms, ball joints, and shaft assemblies. The shaft assemblies are the aftermarket greaseable kind and are riveted on...

Got mine from Laurel Mountain Must. for $135 (pair) + shipping ($17) with Moog 3bolt ball joints and shafts .You also need to get a kit to change the grease fittings on u cont. arm to 90 degree fitting so they can greased or drill holes into shock towers to acess fittings.

your absolutely rite on the 3-4 bolts... my friend has a 64 ranchero and I did all the research to switch over his 4 stud drums to granada disc's... He used his a-arms with mav ball joints (4 stud) and granada disc's... works fine... good luck(y)
