In regards to the 408 stroker I am building. I went to www.ssbrakes.com to check for breaks front & back. The car has a 9" rear end, 31 spline. What part number on the sight would work for me. I want 2 piston type.

Seondily, on this 1971 Comet what is the what size tires should I use to get the maximum benefit out of the car without it rubbing anything. Size, heighth, width and rims etc. Oh one more thing, what about headers that will fit in the engine compartment. I do know that I believe there is about half inch of room on both sides of the shock towers and do I put the headers on first and then drop in the engine or after the engine is in? Thank you!

Wow, I didn't know my questions were that hard...

to answer? Btw, I would like to post some pictures and I did read the post from someone that gave instructions on how to do it. However, the very first thing to do was to click on "Manage Attatchments" which I cannot find. Is there an easier way to do this? Thank you

Is this a race car or a street car? Several companies make brakes for our cars.

Several companies make headers also, IMO they are all a Bi*ch to install !! good luck..

Thank you very much for the reply.

The car is a race/street car but I do not plan on racing it at the strip. I mean I could if I wanted to but for now it's for the street. If you read my post #1 you will see what I was asking regarding the breaks. Like someone else on this forum said, the car has to stop especially in view of the engine I'm using. Here is the site of the guy that is building the engine www.badasscars.com Like I said it's a 408 stroker. In regard to the headers question I know there a bear to install. I want to know if you put them on first and then drop in the engine compartment? I think there is only going to be about half inch to three quarters of an inch on each side of the shock towers, and I don't think the towers have to be cut.

Btw, I really enjoyed your web site and the racing. The music was good as well, whats the name of the group and the song? Again, thank you for your input.

use stock maverick/granada disc front, get the explorer disc kit from ford for the rear.15x8 wheels w/3.75" backspace work well on rear, should be able to run a 28x10.5 "street" tire with the fender lip rolled.headers will be a pain no matter whose you get,I like hedmans for the money.JMO.

James, I can't answer your questions and be sure that what I tell you is accurate. If you go the the drag-racing forum, the header questions should be answered in there. I'll see if I can find the right thread. As for the brakes, as Mr. Kleck said, use the Maverick/Comet/granada front brakes. Since you have a 9 inch rear, you will probably need to contact someone on that brake site and let them tell you. They will need a lot of info I'm thinking to see about fitting your application. Good Lcuk!!! Preston

Here's a thread with part #'s for 1 1/2 inch primary headers by tubular. Hedman makes a set of 1 3/4" primary headers that will fit, but may require a spacer plate on your heads. Just do a search for the Hedmans. Preston

Hooker actually makes the 1 3/4" primary tube header that fits our cars. It's part# 6208.

    You did just fine.

Thank you very much that was helpful and over this past weekend I talked to a friend of mine regarding the breaks. I am puzzled about one thing though? When one is buying parts for a car (in my case 1971 Mercury Comet with a 351W) and say I go to a site that services mustangs. Here is the question, I need a new fuel tank so when they ask what car is it for what year mustang body is the same as the 1971 comet? Or if I need a new manual steering box (which btw I plan on using and not power steering) again, what year is appropriate? Thank for you help, I really appreciate it.

I'd also be interested to know if there was an easier way to find out what parts are interchangable between Mavericks and Mustangs (and others) other than posting a thread here.

I want to thank you all for your help on the questions I have raised because I am getting a real education. The next thing I need to know is where to get a back windshield for my 71 comet? I was able to pick up a new front windshield but the glass guy said he does not have backs. He said to check a mercury dealership, which I did and their nos parts from their warehouses only go back to 1991. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

For the back glass, I'd try E-bay. There or a junkyard. Those are probably going to be your best bet. Post a want-ad on this site for a back-glass on here. Someone usually has one listed for sale. Glad we have helped you!! Good Luck!! Preston
