Does anyone know if P215/60R14 size tires will fit on the standard steel 4 lug wheels on my '72 Maverick? I have a chance to get a good deal on a set of 4 of these tires, but I'm not sure they'll fit. I'm thinking they might be too wide for the rim.

I don't know for sure....but if your car has the factory 4 1/2" wide wheels.....those may not fit. Maybe ask a tire store if that size tire will fit on a 4 1/2 inch wide wheel. Being 4-lugs...I bet that is what you have.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with those who say that the tires fit. The 215 is much too wide for the stock 4.5-inch wheel. Oh sure, it will physically go on there, but the sidewalls suck inward drastically, and it's really not good for the tires. You should have a 6-inch wheel for that size tire...

I have to agree with T.L....I would think they may be to wide also....I had 205/70/14's on mine years ago and they had a decent bulge to them. It may depend on the tire though...some are different width's regardless of what they say on the side. But in my opinion...the 205 is about the limit with the 4.5" rims.

I have 195/70R14s on the front & 235/60R14s on the rear. I'm not really sure of the sizes of the wheels (I bought them 19 years ago) the rear ones are deep dish - reversed. I'm planning to get Magnum 500s. I'm going to try to get the same type of setup; 14X7s on front and a deeper dish on the rear.

That is true Dennis.....there were some 6" wide wheels. A 1970 Grabber I parted out had the 6" wide 4-lugs....but they are VERY RARE. Maybe even rarer than a Grabber hood!! :D

I just brought a tire & wheel to the shop I use. They said the tires will not be a problem, but may possibly wear slightly more in the center. The rims are definitely wider than 4.5 inches. When the tires are laid on their side next to the spare tire, which has an original D78-14 tire, they are only about an inch wider overall. I'll post some pics when they're all on the car. I just got some hub caps & trim rings from Terry, so the car's beauty factor is about to increase!
