Hi all. This looks like a nice community for the Mavericks. I'm in the market for a Maverick and want to treat it right. I'm more of a restomoder than a true restorer. I owned a small Ford when I was overseas. It was a Ford Capri. Apparently this doesn't have the same name in the US. Perhaps its a Mercury here. Anyways, the Maverick reminds me alot of that car. Initially I was thinking Mustang, but it appears alot of price is tied to that name. I enjoy driving these cars but more than that I enjoy tweaking and working on them. The Maverick looks like I can break in with a small investment and still afford parts for frequent projects. I'm hopeing this is a site where I can bat around my ideas and if not get answers at least help finding somewhere to look. My first concern, how many standard shift cars were made? It seems that the majority of the Mavericks were automatics.
to the board. The Capri is a mercury here in the states. Have a lot of Comet owners here as well. You will find a good bunch of folkes here and as far as bouncing ideas, you will also find eveyone definitely has an opinion. There is a lot of experience here as well, usually if you have a problem, someone here has had the same problem and can guide you through it. once again and enjoy
Greetings I found my 71 2dr mav with a 3spd. I wasn't at all happy with the stock tranny/clutch. no matter how nice i was to the clutch i still was changing clutches every about 10 months I do love manual trannies and wanted to go 4spd in my mav. but I ended up with a shiftkited c4. drives pretty much like a 3spd manual to me. not that i recomend it, but i can even choose to start from a dead stop in 2nd. in my opinion TCI makes a great C4 (streetfighter) just keep it cool, get a temp gauge, use the right fluid. or you'll be replacing the tranny @ 6kmiles. like i am. good luck and go for the 2dr 70 or 71 with the "small" bumper.
welcome FarmDog, to the board, lots of information here and some really nice folks too, you should have no trouble finding what you need...Jim
Thanks for the warm welcome. I was hoping for a daily driver that I could fix up as I could afford projects. Of course my wife had other plans for tax money, lol. So, it looks like I'm more in the market for a "piece o' crap meets lots o' elbow grease" restoration.
