My car at the moment has 1/2-20 wheel studs in the front hubs. I believe someone before me might have possibly drilled the hubs for these. They don't go far enough into the cragar nuts to meet NHRA tech. What does any one else use? ARP and Milodon doesn't apparently make one for it, at least not with the proper shoulder length to engage the brake drum.

Huh? As far I as know the lugs are 1/2"x20,and you can get longer ones just about anywhere.

steve, when i changed the studs out when i was circle track racing, i got mine at pep boys. they had a lot of different sizes. you just need to know the diameter of the knurl on the stud and the length you need. my maverick gets looks at tech as they don't go all the way through on the front, but they are legal. they only have to go 1/2" into the nut, for a 1/2 x 20 stud. the rear ones i had pressed in when i bought the new axles from moser. summit has them from moroso, arp, and moser. again, there's about 4 different knurl sizes. maybe someone knows what a stock size is. i took one with me to pep boys when i got mine. good luck.:)

If they're anything like the studs on the axles, you'll have to match them because they're not all the same. Might just be a model year difference. A couple years ago when Todd broke in his new 3-wheeler at Muncie :D they tried some from a rear end someone was selling, and the knurl was too small, but they were good enough to get the car back on the trailer at least.

    Wheel studs revisited

The problem I am facing is the NHRA rules say that the stud has to go into the nut at least the diameter of the stud. They are calling the nut portion the part that sticks out of the wheel. The part that sticks in the wheel is the shank. I have Cragar SS wheels so the shank is really long. The studs that are in the car now has a shoulder 5/8" long. The brake drum has to rest on this shoulder to help center it. . All of the aftermarket studs I find with a .625 diameter knurl have a .400 long shoulder, about .225 short, which would leave the drum riding on the threads.. I was just wondering if anyone else had faced this problem. I am thinking that I am going to have to go with a aftermarket set of front disc brakes and hubs $$$$ unless I can remedy this problem. My other problem is my other two Maverick projects are 4 hole wheels, so I can't tell if these hubs and/or studs are stock or not, or if someone has drilled them out The drums are ribbed, so I don't know if that tells anyone anything about them. I have been through a Napa picture book and I wasn't able to find one in there that worked. The ideal stud would be 1/2-20, at least 2.750 long with a .625 diameter knurl AND a .625 length shoulder.

    Steve,

Check with Moser Engineering. I'm pretty sure they have them, and at a reasonable price.

Problem cured, bought Aerospace disc brakes

End of wheel stud problem. I just ordered a set of front disc brakes from Aerospace Components, ones that will fit my drum brake rotors. They assured me the stock master cylinder would be fine for drag racing and in town street use. I hope they fit in my Cragar SS front wheels, 5.5 width. Also got my Nitrous Works kit installed last night. Got the 150 HP jets in it, hope to run it this Sunday at Speedworld in Phoenix. Looking for 11.20's. They are having a Muscle Car Heaven event, should be fun. This is a link to some pictures from last year.

Your going to be a lot happier with the disc brakes. I don't think 11.20's and the stock drum brakes would have been much fun.

Put some Moroso's in, 3inch long. on our old drum brakes. Seems like there was still a problem with the knurl size. Most parts stores have a thick book listing all the studs and knurl sizes for every imagenable car. Find the stock size for your application and then see if Moroso or others have one the same. Remember drilling the stud holes out to fit some one time but been to many years back. Keep telling myself to keep those part numbers handy when I get a situation like that, but as usual just chuck the empty pkg. in file 13. duh!

I know 11.90's are no fun with the stock drums...

must be easier the faster you go, cause I have not had any trouble with the drums. I have them set so lose its like spinning the big wheel with Vanna White.
But I do not push them hard and I always use the last turn-off. Not saying I would not luv to have disc, but the drums will stop the car.
