Hi, My name is Mike Blanton and I live in Fancy Farm, Kentucky. I'm 33 and have been interested in cars for along time (since I was three and knocked my first car into gear). I have found a 1970 Maverick that I would like to purchase as a project car for $1000.00. The car has a 200 rebuilt engine with 44,000 miles. It runs great, but the seller says the front end needs alot of work (upper/lower ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks/struts...etc). I am posting a link to a set of pictures of the car. Please take a look and give me an honest opinion. http://www.pbase.com/mblanton/maverick Thank you very much. Mike
It needs work, but thats what we are all about.I'd go for it.Only thing to watch for is the rusty floor pans and general rot.If thats ok,maybe offer him 800.00 see what he says.Start dreaming,V-8 all the goodies, you have to start a project somewhere.
Exterior looks better than the inside, and that is cheaper to fix. I would try an negotiate the price a bit. Good luck. Seth
howdy! The car looks like a good start. Take the info given above and see what happens. Where is Fancy Farm????? It would be great to have another KY. person in the Maverick family. we have several events planned here in Ky. I am in Louisville and if there is anything I can do to help, just let me know.
Take a bucket of water and slowly pour it down the vent in front of the windshield. Then look to see if any is leaking on the floors. If so the cowl needs work and hopefully he should drop the price accordingly.
looks like a nice body. do what mavaholic says and check the cowls and the torque boxes for rust. if they need work, plan on quite a bit of time or expense. i'd offer him less anyway and see what he says. you can always go up in price but you can't back down on it.
to the board... do as said by the previous posts... cowls and torque boxes are a big fix and drop the price accordingly... get pics and or ck out the car with your own eyes... pics don't always tell the true story... good luck
Hey Hey Hey I Use To Live In Fancy Farm Out On Rule Shack Road Dam* Good Town....get A Maverick And All Your Troubles Will Go Away Either That Or Youll End Up Sinking A Bunch Of Money Into Her Either Way You Get A Dam* Good Result.
Thanks for all the welcomes and responses. I am very excited about joining this forum and reading/learning alot about mavericks. I have wanted to do something like this for along time. If I buy this car and take on this project I want to do so with a good understanding of the work and money it will take to bring this car to the level I want. I plan on doing a much more detailed inspection of the car later on; in the mean time I want to become familiar with the ins and outs of the car and learn what to look for. Someone said I should inspect the cowls and torque boxes....anyone care to explain what these are.....sorry I'm a little green. My biggest dilema right now is trying to decide whether I would want to bring the car back to stock and stay with the V6 or do some sort of radical change and throw in the V8. I have several ideas, but I would like to hear a few opinions first. Thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to talking with many of you. Mike
V8 all the way! The cowl is the area under those vents if you look directly at the base of the windshield. Pour some water in the vents and see if it comes out in the floor or under the car.
Body looks good, check the cowl vents for leaks interior won't be hard to fix...good luck and welcome to the board...Jim
My mav was in worse shape. I say get him drop the price a bit, and go for it. Interior isn't that bad to fix.
