Just a few teaser shots, mocked it up while crank rods etc are being balanced. just think for 10k you can build something like this too (remember best of everything was used) This motor will replace the motor in his car now see other pic
Yours or someone else's? looks sweet... I like the thought of a 327 or 331, but I'll probably go with a 351 for longevity for the $$. There aren't any good machine shops around here...
$10,000 Did you guys use an aftermarket block? Mine has what I would consider the best of everything and didn't cost anywhere near that much.....
I am including the carb, headers, and all the under hood bling. Motor long block is about $7500.00 tax and all The Fully rollerized c4 and stall(stahl) was another 2500.00 It has titanium keepers and retainers, ferra stainless steel valves, coated valve springs, Protopline Aluminum heads, eagle stroker kit, ARP everything, internal balance, sfi approved flexplate and dampner. Milodon 8 qt pan, main girdle, valley girdle, comp hyd roller cam, crane link bar lifters to retrofit to hyd roller cam, comp cam, clevite bearings, melling oil pump, edelbrock fuel pump, rpm airgap, msd dizzy, Mighty demon 650. looking to get mid 11s on motor and low 10s on the juice. Car is going to be a show and drag car. I would estimate when it is done 25k cost to build. My brother works for the Ford Transmission plant and makes 80k a year( he's only 20 and single) (just has to work damn near 7 days a week all year long to do it) I could have gotten more out of the motor but we want it steetable. Hence the N20 to make it a real threat at the track when the need arises. Will get it dynoed by june. I am expecting at least 420 streetable HP the machinist is saying 450hp but I prefer to expect low so I am not disappointed.
I hear ya, it's easy to get alot of money tied up into a nice carb and headers and all the other crap necessary to get one running...... Just curious, who did his transmission?? I'm assuming that maybe he did it since his day job is transmissions......? My Long Block was about $6500 but it came with a hydraulic roller cam. He is running some better valve train components than I am running. Man it's easy to get alot of money tied up into one!! I forsee your brothers biggest problem being traction!!
LOL he works on the assembly line so he knows jack crap about cars. It is a COAN transmission. I think tracytion will be a problem as well http://www.coanracing.com/Catalog.asp?CatClass=07TR talk to Walker an tell him Lance from Cincinnati sent ya.
It had better last darn near forever to justify the cost. But, you're right...if you had to start from scratch, it'd cost a bunch of money to do it piece by piece. Is that an aftermarket block? I hope so. Dad's low-buck 331 goes just what you're looking for....low 11s high 10s (8.90 1000'). Won't last forever but none of them do if you beat on 'em. Reguardless, it'll be one fun ride!!
Nice setup Lance, traction will definitely be a prob, he may be a little light on the carb also, I was running a 675 Holley on my 306 and it would starve punchin it from idle.
I have less than $5000.00 in a 347 including parts machine work every thing is forged H-beam rods edelbrock V jr heads v jr intake canton oil pan the whole engine is arp studed plus everything under the hood electric water pump MSD ignition Holley HP 750 carb plus a Dynamic C4 just rebuilt by dynamic with a dynamic 3800 9" nitrous converter and flex plate. plus two holley blue fuel pumps roller rockers you name it and 75% of the stuff is new all I can say is thank goodness for ebay and a local dragstrip classified I bought the engine already assembled from a local machine shop with a list of all parts used for $1,500 the balanced owed on it from a none paying customer that paid for the parts and after a year never paid the balance
If you inderstand demons they wet flow thier carbs which is like a 750 holley which is dry flowed Kinda the reason everybody was having problems getting them tuned in. They kept saying but my holley
