Whenever you make a right turn and use the right turn signal, I have to hold it on with my hand, it will not stay up by itself. When I go to make a left turn, the tail light flashes but you have to get the lever in just the right place to make the dash light and light on the front of the car flash.

Anyone know how to fix this? Also, when you turn the wheel to the left, a squeak is comeing from somewhere in the steering colum. How do I stop that, it's driveing me nuts.

You need to pull the steering wheel and inspect the turn signal cam. The cam is made of plastic and is likely broken.

I suppose it's on a 71 Comet? Same switch as a 71 Maverick, and discontinued, expensive when you find them. When you take it apart, unplug it from the bottom of the column first, so you won't short anything out. There is a repair cam you can buy at almost any auto supply, in the "Help" section, about $10.00. Depending on the old switch, it may or may not work, but will be better than what you have. I think I just got mine fixed today, it has a lot of slop where it pivots, so it doesn't stay centered, and the left brake light won't come on. I shimmed it up, and it seems ok for now. It sure beats paying close to $100.00 for one...

Thanks guys. The 71 Comet is long gone, this is on a 74 Grabber. Sorry, I should have specified.

    Thanks for the help.

The switch is still available for your car, I would buy a new one.
