I found an old newspaper from 1973 and couldn't resist checking out the classified ads. It's just amazing what cars, old and new, sold for back then. There was an ad for a 1963 Galaxy 500 convertable for $695. There was another ad for a used 1971 Maverick Grabber with the 302 , manual transmission for a whooping $900. Then I came across these ads for the new 1973 Mavericks and a Pinto. I thought some of us 'older' folks could enjoy a trip down memory lane.
If we knew then what we know now, makes me feel sick sometimes of the deals I passed up.Of course hindsite is always 20/20 isn't it?I tried to get my father to loan me $1500.00 in 1970 to buy a 1957 Thunderbird that was for sale by the original owner,he wouldn't do it.Said they were crummy cars and gas hogs.Told me I needed to by one of those new Mavericks,I said cool, then he said "save your money" I bought a 61 Falcon for $50 that smoked like a frieght train. So much for being young and broke.
The sad part about it is how much less our money is worth now compared to back then...........that $2900 Maverick probably compares to a $21,000 Taurus today. You could fill up for about $5 @ 50cents a gal, now $50 @ $2 + a gal.
