Has anyone tried out the halogen 1157 taillight bulbs yet? Do they really use less energy and run cooler then a regular bulb? I know there is a quartz halogen that runs much hotter, but the regular halogen bulb is supposed to run cooler. Is that all true? What about a xenon halogen?

Main thing I'm thinking is a pair of the amber colored ones for the sportlamps. Would make them brighter without having a meltdown of the plastic clear lens. Has anybody tried these out?

I've never seen a Halogen lamp that operated cooler than an incandescent. I have a few LED bulbs on lights on my truck and they put out no heat to speak of. I'd be a bit concerned about melting plastic lens if they were on too long especially in a smaller fixture.

yeah at 9.95 each thats a little pricey as well.....but hey, if they are brighter than it could be worth it if you live in a fog, rain, snow ridden areaa....

i might get some as well...since i do a lot of night driving

I'm waiting to hear back from JC Whitney's customer no service department right now. They have the 1157 AMBER XENON halogens for 9.99 a pair! That would be perfect for the sportlamps, if they run as warm or cooler. I asked them to verify that they run cooler then a stock incandecent, but they have not got back to me yet.

Here is the link to Whitneys bulbs.
