This is the opening post covering the *restoration* of my wife’s Maverick. I put restoration in asterisks because while almost everything will be touched, it won’t be a bare metal, nut and bolt rotisserie restoration. Just wanting a super clean cruiser. Bought the relatively rust free roller a couple years ago but just now getting started on her after finishing a couple other real restorations (1972 Dodge Colt wagon and a 1967 Daihatsu S37 Hijet). Since it had no drivetrain the original plan was to swap in a GM Atlas 4.2 (blasphemy), but I lucked into a 73’ 4 door parts car that used to have a V8 and a short while later came across a sweet deal on a 90’ Lincoln LSC to donate the Eng/trans. Spent the last few weeks stripping the underside and inside fender aprons and doing some conversions to the 5.0. Just got started on the rust repairs, which I don’t feel are too bad considering what I’m used to dealing with. Here is the underside after undercoat removal. IMG_1286.jpeg IMG_1287.jpeg

Beginnings of rust repair. Right torque box, top of fender sections (top and bottom pieces) battery tray, and trunk floor extensions Quick rant on that. These (extensions, bottom of rear quarters and part of the arches) most likely would have been good except some PO decided to spray cheap good stuff foam in those areas which we know will trap moisture. And the drivetrain. IMG_1291.jpeg IMG_1290.jpeg
Yeah, wife wanted a green engine.

And here are the aprons, ready for a good coat of epoxy, seam sealer, then KBS undercoat. Going to do the arning drop since it’s all torn apart. IMG_1293.jpeg IMG_1294.jpeg
Believe it or not, the wife did most of this work.
