I stand corrected on the Comet, Richie. I am not as knowledgable (obviously) about Comets (as far as factory options) as I am about Mavericks. The only differences I have ever noticed are the hood, grill, front bumper (early), taillights, trim, and "Comet" emblems...

    Thanx for all the support.

I know I wasnt going crazy. The comets are in the mavericks shadow and I think they should get more exposure.

I also would like to know where the so called Maverick Marauder comes from, all I can find is a Mercury Marauder.

    mcgyver....

I was not trying to step on the toes of the primer? black
Comet GT, I was only pointing out another one for sale
on E-bay at the same time.

As far as whether it is a real GT, I didn't see anything
    that indicated it was not.

    For facts info:
Comet GT's seem to have come standard with bucket seats.
They did not come with the raised rear spoiler. Also note that
the Grabber Mavericks didn't come with the bright rear trim
around the taillight panel in 70-73 as the Comet GT's did.
I am not positive, but I have never seen the bright wheel
well trim on Grabbers as the Comet GT's came with.

Comet GT's came with the floor or column shifted a/t and
also, with floor shifted manuals. I have seen standard Mavericks
with the column mounted manual shift, but I have never seen
that on a Grabber or GT, or a V-8 Comet or Maverick.
    Has anyone seen that?

    Seth

The location of the shifter was always an option - at least in the early years. You could have either manual or automatic on the column or on the floor. I don't see why adding the Grabber Package to the order would require you to relocate your 3 on the tree to the floor - but what do I know? :) Dan

FYI - my first Maverick - a bone stock 1973 - had a 3 on the tree. The only options the car had was a 302 V8 and a vinyl top.

Can I join in the reindeer game?

My (limited) observations lead me to believe that most early Grabbers and 71+ Comet GTs have few mandatory upgrades or add-ons from standard. Just because it's a Grabber or GT doesn't necessarily indicate it had to leave the factory with certain upgrades.

A plausible reason might be that there were 18 assembly plants during the early years - each facility specifying what components make up a Grabber or GT. That, combined with the fact that the car was constantly being developed during those years (beginning with the relocation of the key), 'standard' upgrades and add-ons were not consistant month to month - not even within each mfg location.

My '70 Grabber was assembled in St. Thomas ("X" in VIN). I'd bet if they didn't have certain items on-hand to fully equip a "Grabber", they'd simply build it without the upgrade, designate it a Grabber, and roll it out the door just to meet a deadline.

    Just my $0.02

    - Of course I could be full of shit. :D

Re: 71 Mercury Comet GT 5.0

The Comet went for $540.00 to one "OMARVAHIDY" who has only one (1) previous purchase. He paid $0.01 for a lighter/torch/compass with 'some' type of leaf painted on the side . You can see it at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=595&item=750514537

Think he's planning on getting high and torching the Comet?

Maybe he's just thinking of an alternative fuel for the Comet once Saddam does in our oil supply!

At least you know he can't carry it on a plane!

    DEAD BEAT BUYER!!!

I'm actually selling it to the second higest bidder, the top bidder didnot follow through and adhere to my requests.

But I dont think it deserves the lighter, its a good car.

    Re: DEAD BEAT BUYER!!!

I HATE it when the DEAD BEATS cause trouble.

I began stating in my terms of sale that the bidder must have at least 5 feedbacks. I was able to reject a few bidders with ebay's help.

(no, I didn't mean the Comet should be torched - a bad attempt at tying together the two items he "bought")

    Better luck next time,

    Rick

    I knew that rick.

I'm sure if you hated the comet you probably wouldnt be part of this forum.

a little ironic that the lighter is the property of GM don't you think?

also the second higest bidder has not replyed yet even though at the end of the auction i asked him if he would want the comet if the high bidder punked out. I think I have this comet for another few months.
