Hey ya'll.......Trying to get an idea on what a '72 Grabber is worth. This one is Blue with (goldish) colored Grabber accents (tail-light panel, grabber stripe, etc.) It is garage kept, NO rust, great paint, no dents, interior in VERY good shape, 200 I-6, auto tranny, 74,800 original miles, A/C works great, heater works great.........what I'm trying to say is that this thing is in GREAT shape!!! Just needs to be washed really. The back seat has one small clean tear in it, not ripped- I mean it could be fixed. The dash isn't cracked the doors don't drop when opened. I mean this thing is in great shape!! So, before I go talk (cause the gentleman will sell I've been told) what is the most I should pay, and what would you folks pay for something like this. I am going to buy it, I just want to get an idea of what I am working with. Thanks ya'll, and if possible, I need this fairly quickly- I'm probably going back down thursday. The man wasn't home, but his wife took me out there and showed me the car. Cranked right up- and hadn't been started in 2 months. The car isn't officially for sale, so I know they did not crank it that morning- (she had to find the keys) Anyway, please help me out here. This one will be my show car. The other Maverick will be my toy. Thanks guys and gals!!! Preston
If it's that nice a similar Grabber sold on eBay a couple of weeks ago for $6200 - 6-cylinder/C4 .... So I guess the answer is ... buy it before they post it on eBay! If it's really that sweet and a well preserved rust-free Grabber I would think it's a great deal if you get it for less than $5,000 .... Who knows ... the guy might say it's yours for $500. I paid $2100 for my rust-free Grabber and it didn't even run!
Hey, nice find Preston! I would say that if you can get it for under $4000, it would be a great deal. Sounds like a good one to keep stock and unrestored.
i wouldn't offer him anything until he starts the pricing game. get an idea of what he is thinking. if he really dosen't plan on selling it he may just give you an off the wall price. course you can always go in the opposite direction and low ball him. maybe you'll get lucky.:evilsmile
i say have 2000 in cash in your pocket... have another 500 in another pocket in case you lose round one of the head game...don't talk about what a great classic the car is but instead of how aunt betty died in a car crash while driving her maverick... act real sad...she just loved that car and was going to give it to you as a graduation present... lay it on REAL thick. hey... if i can hammer down a guy to 100 bucks on a perfectly solid (todds' maverick) and the un-employed angle worked... maybe the aunt betty thing will work for you! best of luck!!!!!!!!so if he calls your bluff you can always say"m'bad... can't blame a guy for trying huh?" as you pull out that extra 500 bucks from yet another pocket...
Good luck, probably like everyone else said in the 4000 to 6000 range on the high side. But hopefully for you well under 4000. These things are going high lately it seems. What matters to is if the guy knows much about the current price of these cars. Like our 76 Comet, really nice shape, but they didn't know what the cars go for and we got it for 500.
I'm not as optimistic as everyone else is (please don't shoot me) - especially without seeing pictures of it. Like anything else, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Good luck. I hope you get it at whatever you think is a reasonable price.
What do you "WANT" to pay? I just walked from looking at a 1971 Grabber with a 200 CID thats toast!, has buckets, floor shift, has headers ( yes headers) with dual exhust, 14x7 (4 lug) Andersons ,(anyone remember those?) Body has one bad rust hole (right rear Q) no dents, nice black grill with sport lamps, all glass is good, headlinder is good, paint is shot!Opened the trunk and it's full of brand new PST suspension parts ( and I mean everything)front and rear springs, shocks, bushings, idler arm, etc. All the parts are new still in box or shrink wrap. And yes it's a true Grabber. Now I ask YOU how much to you think this car is? ( meaning the asking price)Close's one to guess gets the day off !
Well, knowing Cali and the overabundance of Mav's out there, I'd say it was at $1500 and you walked away. Do I win?
I agree .... you California folks can be a lot more picky when it comes to purchasing Mav's because you know a nicer one should be popping up any day now!
yup i paid $250 dollars for my grabber, mostly 90% rust free ...i love arizona! best cars surface outa texas and california :bananaman
Thanks ya'll. I'm going to try to get down there Thursday and go over it again. I'll get the Vin so I can double check that. Thanks again everybody! P.S.- Good luck with your find too Tom! Preston
