I'm going to be retrofitting a 1965 mustang ignition into my dashboard, I got a used unit with harness and a new lock cylinder. I can't figure out how to get the new lock cylinder in, does anyone know what position must the lock be in to be installed?
Are you referring to the ignition switch? For a '65 Mustang it was mounted on the dash. I am not sure but they are probably totally different in the wiring and I doubt that it is an easy switch. But hey, I've been wrong plenty of times before. Perhaps someone here knows. Good luck with the switch. Seth
Seth, I am doing a dash-ignition in my car, welding up the ashtray for the cylinder placement, I just need to find someone who knows about these old ford ignition cylinders.
Thanks, I found that article from a Mustang Board last night as well, I still can't get the darned lock cylinder to fall into place, this sucks.
Make sure the switch is in the proper position. Using a flat blade screwdriver inserted into the slot of the switch make sure it is in the ACC position (should be all the way CCW)
I got it, the new cylinder had a flashing on it that I had to file down a bit, this is going to look GREAT on my dash.
Im interested too. My ignition switch wont lock any more so I need to replace it. I was going to try and find a 69.5 unit to put in my car, but we know how impossible they are to find. AC
StockHatch ... there has been a 69.5 switch and bezel on eBay over and over again for weeks ... NOS ... switch for $9.95 and Bezel for $25 .... I was think about it but I don't have a 69.5 column so it wouldn't look right and don't feel like messing with the wiring ....
The wiring is pretty simple, there's only 3 or 4 wires running to either switch. I am going to take my stock column cover and use it as a base to shave and fiberglass smooth.
Here is the switch as per the Ford Parts Manual : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50459&item=7955051327&rd=1 You already found the bezel ... You can switch to a double side key using this ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4528458412&category=34205 Not guaranteed but if I was looking I would buy them ..
I think there is also a bracket that mounts below the dash to hold it all in place. I couldn't find the part numbe for that. I also couldn't find the one for $9.95 so I guess he gave up relisting it ..
