I am about to install my new door panels but I want to paint the textured metal part on the interior part of the doors. I want to just use a spray can. I've cleaned them and lightly sanded with 600 grit. The paint that is on there is black and somewhat glossy. I checked some posts looking for help and one said to use Duplicolor Perfect Match Black Metallic(part BUN0090)...I may have mis-read and this paint may be for the dash and not the doors? Anyway, I bought a can and did a test on a piece of scrap metal and it looks too metallic...almost with hints of gold. I'm thinking a black satin might be a better choice but I can't seem to find this color in the Duplicolor Perfect Match brand. Any ideas what brand/color I could use?
I have found the Krylon Dual Superbond to be a really nice alternative to use when a quick spray can is preferred. The factory used a slight metallic in their spray, but this Krylon comes out in just about the perfect gloss and has a great color to it. It is just right in looks, except for the lack of the slight metallic. If the factory metallic is desired - you can get that in spray cans from Mustang parts suppliers. Buy several cans as those tend to spray very thin. 1 can of the Krylon should be enough to do 2 doors. Krylon Dual Superbond - 8823 in Satin Black - you can buy it anywhere, including Wal-Mart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Krylon-D... Dual Superbond - 8823 in Satin Black&veh=sem
I used SEM black paint on the metal portions of the doors of my '72 Grabber and the '73 Comet that I used to have they came out great. The paint cans are at my shop across town but IIRC the color is either called Satin Black or Landau Black.
Yes I looked the SEM Landau Black is the carpet/vinyl dye that I used. I used the SEM Trim Black on the interior metal portions of my door. They have 3 different 'sheens' of the black (matte, satin and gloss). I'm pretty sure the one that I used was the satin. They carry the SEM brand at most of my local automotive paint dealers.
I went with the Krylon Dual Superbond...here is how it looks after the two coats. New door panels go on next.
That seems to match the panel nicely. I liked the way the Superbond laid down. I found it easy to work with. How did you like it?
Yes it was satin black. If you click on the link below you will see a picture of the can. I was not able to find it at my local Walmart but Ace Hardware carried it in stock. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Krylon-D... Dual Superbond - 8823 in Satin Black&veh=sem
I needed to paint my new dash cover and package tray along with several of the interior panels so I went to my local painters supply and they matched it and put it in a rattle can for me. It was a lot cheaper than I expected. I think the total cost was about $35 and I got two spray cans plus enough left over in a can to make another spray can if I need it. The match was perfect, can't even tell (I have a blue interior). For the match, I removed the glove compartment door and brought it into the store.
