The blue dash pad on my '76 Comet is badly sunburnt and cracked. Ideally I would like to replace it with a good condition original; otherwise, has anyone purchased and installed one of these ? https://www.ebay.com/itm/190490830941 Thanks
Were you able to paint it the correct color ? What is a good resource to get the correct interior color paint ?
I used DuPont interior dye from Finishmaster looks great , I just gently clean it with a micro fiber towel . , made sure it was extremely clean before painting it , also used adhesion promoter for plastic after cleaning
I didn't paint mine, being I have black interior. Just cleaned dash w/ alcohol, and glued it down. I held it in placed w/ weights and wood braces till glue dried -- have no issues so far. Only the real Maverick folks may know it's a cap, most everyone else don't have a clue. My dash was not to the point where it had foam protruding thru the vinyl; if it had, I probably wud have had to make some mods to make it fit properly. I wud recommend it.
I have a perfect, uncracked pad that I plan on capping. If I don't I'm pretty sure it will start crack as soon as I put the car on the road, it's pretty firm to the touch.
My car came with a dash cap.....I thought it was a real dash. I never seen a cap before and was surprised when I bumped it and it moved!
I was installing my dash pad cover yesterday and thinking how to hold it down tightly while the adhesive sets and came up with this idea. A pool noodle toy wedges in between the dash and windshield perfectly. I added a couple of shims to help with the irregular curves. Let it set overnight like this and next day it was adhered very nicely.
I got it from Stock Interiors they come in black only but for an extra charge (I think about $15) they will paint it one of several colors. I had them paint it blue and it was close but not a good match so I had a local painter supply shop match my interior and put it in a spray can for me then I repainted it.
Mine's held down with 3M double sided tape. Press it down for a minute to activate the adhesive and you're done.
