I about to replace my suspension. What is the best I can get product wise for a smoother ride instead of it being rough as hell. Shocks shruts coils ect.

The original ride in these cars wasn't harsh, sounds like someone has installed stiff shocks and/or cut the springs... Also polyurethane busting in the strut rods limit their travel and contribute to harshness(and possible broken rod that would be a disaster at highway speeds)...

I learned the hard way, when I rebuilt my front end I installed the poly bushings(were included in kit), KYB shocks and reused the original springs that proved too stiff with aluminum intake & headed engine... Frontend had almost zero compliance... Soooo I swapped strut rod bushings to std replacement Moog, the shocks to Monro-Matic & springs are TRW 8088 for a 6cyl... Has a decent ride...

With a total cast iron engine, the 8088 probably won't be stiff enough...

I have the KYB shocks and shruts. I got a great deal for the set. I have a 302 so what spring coil would be best for it. And as far as I know everything is still original on the car.

    Wondering that myself...

No Maverick/Comet had shruts or struts from factory...

Sorry stupid phone struts are inside the coil spring. That's what it's was called for the front shocks.

On these cars, out front those were shock absorbers. Struts are on cars where they have a role in locating the suspension in place. Shocks just dampen the motion, but the rest of the front suspension serve as keeping everything located.

I did this tech article on rear shocks ....
    http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/more-options-for-rear-shocks-for-our-cars.50105/

Still have yet to drive the car and see how I like them .... sigh ....

One of the best things I did that smoothed out the ride was to replace the spring saddles with rollerized ones.

I agree! I notice my car rides much better w/ the perches. Bump steer reduced, better handling and smoother ride. I wish I had replace the lower A-arms w/ something like PTPE rollerized arms, instead of stock arms. I wud recommend the saddles/perches.

Thanks I appreciate all the help. By no means do I consider myself very knowledgeable when it comes to cars. I have been learning as I go.

Not to be negative on the roller perches, but I can't see how a solid bearing in place of a rubber bushing can make any difference in ride quality, if anything I'd think it'd add to harshness... No real doubt it could improve handling, as under severe conditions the rubber distorts somewhat, but I can't vision the need for just normal street driving, cruising around etc...

AFAIK there wasn't any such thing as roller perches back when performance was the game Shelby, Boss 302/351/429, Cobra Jets etc all used the rubber perches...

Biggest issue I see with the rubber perches is finding any that are worth a damn, in that light the rollers make for a easy decision...

Roller perches reduce binding which allows the suspension to move freely in turn potentially improving the ride. I could be wrong but didn't many of the racers run the early perches with the bronze bushings? In essence an early verson of a roller perch as we know it today.

Good Luck on finding the Front SWAY BAR !! I had to wait for nine months for a 1" sway bar for my Maverick ..and I ordered one for the Comet and was told that it would be 3 months before they could ship ! So I just cancelled the order . ( The larger Sway Bar on the Maverick really helped )
