Here is another easier way to take care of leaking cowls. This was done by Chip Crenshaw down in FL. Even though my cowls are in great shape, I'm thinking of doing this just because I think it looks great. Chip is going to write a tech article on how to do this for those interested. He can be contacted at:

Looks good, but what did they do to seal the wiper shaft holes?

Dont know, write and ask him. If I do my 71, I will remove the wipers all together and really give it a smooth look.

Meet was great although it was probably 70% Mustang. There was about 14 Comets and Mavericks.

That cowl fix does look good, but keep in mind thats how the fresh air gets to the front vents. I had a '67 Mustang with the same treatment, in the summer it would get pretty hot without the air. Just a thought.

This doesn't have to close off the cowls entirely. You could open the end of the cowl area under the fenders, behind the splash shield to allow air to get in. It would still be fairly cool, just not pressurised. If you wanted air under pressue, you could use ducting from the wheel well in such a way as to allow airflow but not allow water to enter the cowl area. Relatively easy mod to make.

I love the clean look. Would really like to see a how-to with pictures.

    cowl cleanup

I would definatily be interested in this ,I removed the heating sys.of my car,and I have a terrible draft in there,I contemplated just covering the heater box hole, but I'd rather cover the cowl to keep the water out, I have actually lost sleep over this trying to brain storm this ,everything from filling the grills with mud (bondo), to fiberglass over them and smooth them over, to just pop riveting tin plates over them and just painting them, I do not want to remove the windshieldat this time, however when I do decide to paint the car professionally, I will have the windshield replaced ,because it is cracked.
