Decisions, decisions...

Heres the deal.

I can get a 70' Maverick that "supposedly" has 36,000 original miles, has not ran in 7-8 years but they say it ran fine when the parked it there, and has no title (not required in GA anyways) for 500 bucks. The car is a terrible (no offense to some that may like this color, it's just not my taste) green color and either has black or green interior. I believe the color is called New Lime as seen here: http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.php?attachmentid=8698 (thanks to the person that posted this) The car is about 3 miles from my grandparents house in NC. The only time I have ever seen this car in person was about 3 years ago, and it looked decent. My grandpa went to look at it Thursday and said the car has basically no rust on it except one little spot of surface rust above the passenger rear wheel. The car belongs to my grandpa's cousin.

OR

I can get a 74' Grabber from Terry Hawkins on this forum. It has a good Georgia title, the car is black with black interior (from what I can see in the pics), and the body appears to be pretty much rust free except for the battery trey/fender apron area which would be no problem for my dad to fix.

Both cars are either 200 or 250 straight 6 automatics.

The advantage to the green car is it already has the small bumpers on it. The advantage to the black car is it has a title. Both cars have the same hubcaps. Both cars need minor rust repair. Both cars are very close in price

My grandpa is really wanting me to get the green one I think.

The green one isn't going anywhere anytime soon, You would have to REALLY know the old back roads of that area to find it, so I could always buy it later.

Trying to make this decision is about to kill me. What do you guys think?

We are going to visit my grandparents this weekend, and my grandpa is going to take me to get a close up look at the green one.

I have had DREAMS about going to look at both of these cars the past 4 nights in a row.

Appolgies for the long post, I seem to have the FGPS (frequent gigantic post syndrom...)

I would really appreciate you guys opinoions on what you think I should do.

 

Contrary to popular belief making a decision will not kill you.And for the FGPS some more Ritalin should help that.I would go for the one with a title unless as you stated its not required in GA??? If not I would go for the cheaper of the two so you can pay your dad for all that work he is going to be doing.Best of luck finding your car.

Only help I will be getting from dad will be the minor rust repair. I am very good with cars for my age, swapped my frist engine by myself when I was 15 without any coaching. Started out rebuilding and messing with lawnmower engines when I was 6. Mechanical stuff just kinda comes natural to me. Please don't think of this as the dumb kid standing around watching while his dad does all the work. My dad is a busy man, I'll be pretty much on my own.

My dad is actually siked that I want one of these cars and is behind me 100% and will help with repairs in any way possible he says.

 

Personally, I prefer small bumpers.

i would get both. get the one from terry, and the other one sounds like a great parts car. i am from N.C.(living in G.A. now)., if you don't get that one may i have a shot at it? ...frank...

 

Get BOTH !! You can never have too many !! Sell off what you do not use to offset cost.

 

A car sitting for 7 to 8 years would really concern me. "Sitting" is the worst thing a car can do.

 

I agree, that you would probably prefer the small bumpers....

 

i'd have to agree with getting both if you possibly can. if not get the one in the best condition. you can always change out the bumpers. some people like the bigger bumpers.

 

As it stands right now, the average mmb forum member here owns 2.1 Mavericks or Comets. I think ya gotta go ahead and buy both of them so you can keep up with everybody else.

Believe me guys, I would LOVE to get both cars! But right now I'm a flat broke 17 year old, and I just don't have the money for both. I am takeing donations!

Craig, I agree with you on the sitting thing. That is a mighty long time, but my grandpa says it looks really good to him to have been sitting that long. I'll be finding out this weekend how hard it will be to get it up and running again, I doubt it will take much.

I really like Terry's car. It's already got black interior, and thats exactly what I want. But I feel like my dad and grandpa are trying to sway me more towards the green one.

Frank, If I do end up getting the one from Terry, I will be EVENTUALLY buying the green one for the bumpers and stuff. One way way or another, within the next year I will have the green car also. If you want it first, good luck to ya finding it! Only hent I'll give ya is it's WAYYY off in the old 2 lane back roads, theres several dead ends and turns you gotta make and roads splitting off, and thats before you hit the gravel roads! sorry man!

I really appreciate all of you guys opinion on this. It's helping me greatly get my head clear and think about which one I NEED to get and not which one I want to get.
