once the engine and converter come to operating temp ( expands) you may still have an issue with it hitting.
See attached. This is the 200 cid torque converter. And, installation info. Did you get the correct "Flex Plate"?
Now that'd be getting seriously hot... Far bigger problem is, should there be a weight or not?? If it's supposed to be there, cutting it down will no doubt cause vibration... If it's not required but one is installed, that will cause vibration... I looked at a 200 C4 I have in storage and it has no weight on front side of converter, just the ring gear... It's located where I can't easily access the rear side, so I dunno if there is a weight behind ring gear or not...
Yes. The 250 cid has a different bell housing & converter. I'm not sure by what you mean by "weight" on it...where?
Call me blind but I can't find a weight on the Precision 170/200 converter, four studs & a drain plug...
On the rounded part at the bottom, zoom in you can see it , that's where mine was, a little closer to the ring gear though
not sure what to do , but I might just start it up and see what happens, or would that be the wrong thing to do?
Curtis : If the weight was that thick .. and you ground half of it away it may effect the operation of the converter. The balance weights are there for a purpose. Have you considered obtaining another converter ? I'm sure you could find another one on this forum if you ask. JMO . Cometized (Chip)
You can start it and gradually bring up engine speed, if it's going to vibrate it'll be obvious by 2000-3000 RPMs...
Someone else posted the conventional 250/302 flexplate, has nothing to do with Curtis' 200.... It's far larger than the 200 bellhousing opening, can't possibly be installed, post should be deleted as it only contributes to confusion...
Krazy Comet - good catch! I deleted to reduce even more confusion. But, attached is the correct "Flex Plate" Also, I had to "Shim" the crankshaft side when installing my flex plate, in order to meet the install tolerance specifications.
I'm still a few weeks away from being able to start it I have the car completely taken down to nothing, and everything was nicely painted no scratches or anything like that putting it in that's why I kind of hated to take it out so I think I'm gonna start it see what happens but I'll take it back out if it seems funny , it bothers me grinding down the weight also , here's a picture of the old one with the weights on it, the transmission doesn't look like that anymore
