I noticed there is a system of rating cars in the Garage section of this forum. Just wondering if anyone ever wrote up the rules for doing the rating. For instance, I would think we are rating both the quality of the submitted info, the details, photos etc plus whether or not the car is cool. Anyone have some opinions or can lead us to where the rules are written? For instance, the car may be a work in progress but the write up and photos are great. Does it deserve 5 stars?

I think ratings should be done pretty much like you said.. single aspect or combination of many factors. Obviously not everyone will be rating on the same criteria but we should still see the obvious trend towards the mainstream opinion.

IMHO, the more comprehensive writeups SHOULD get higher ratings. It takes a LOT of time for someone to record, publish, and share their progress for others use and enjoyment. Adds more time to the restoration process and they should most definitely be reward for all the extra effort and information sharing with gracious admiration, thank you's, more stars and a few emoji's tossed in there too. :1st:

And let's not forget the questions and future picture requests.. we have to thank them with questions and more picture requests for at least the next 10 years as well. :dizzy:

Finished cars are great to inspire but we should keep in mind that there are far more people building these cars than ever before. The knowledge base is here.. we just need to consolidate more relevant pictures into the process of restoring these types of cars. Searches can be tough and time consuming, I believe the garage could help further that consolidation effort.

Probably a question better aimed towards Stefan.. but I wonder if there's a way to incorporate a "build completion percentage" or "restoration level" rating for each car?

I would guess that a percentage rating based on the completeness of a build would be very subjective and some guys are "never really done".. but may help searching through what will eventually become a beast of a section for this forum. I know I'm getting kinda needy here.. but a search filter to pinpoint specific "build completion" percentage ranges could come in pretty handy too.

Perhaps if there was an example of a car at each rating level it would help normalize the rating system. I could volunteer pictures of my car in the bottom rating. :rofl2:Maybe even do a crazy extensive write up on it and get into 2 star territory. :stirthepot:

That's too funny! If you can't make fun of yourself... nobody can.

I'll be damned proud if I can hit 2 stars after mines actually running again. :D

A few years back there was a virtual car show on this site and you entered your car and people voted just like a car show but online and that was fine but I think the Garage is better and really dont see any need to have a rating system the Garage is just here to provide a little more detailed area for your car and a way to update it and keep it in one place if you choose to add to it. I think all the cars are winners and deserve 5 stars because each owner is proud enough of his/hers car to display it.

I believe you are right yellow75, I would hate to see the Garage turn into a competition.

I hope the rating system will encourage quality garage entries with detailed information and good pictures. Dont want to see one line garage entries with a single low quality picture.

I was thinking the garage was for posting your car and editing it as you work on it..
is there a degree of completion it has to have before it's entered?

    example: DrSnoopy75
he has a ton of before pics but hasn't even washed the car yet. if it was in the garage we could follow it as it progresses.
    we have...
What did you do to your Maverick or Comet today
for daily stuff everybody does. but no way to follow any one car that doesn't qualify for the garage...
with this..."will encourage quality garage entries" then most would Waite until they are finished with the project before entering the garage to be rated...JMO

This is a great example of a quality entry as its being continuously updated and shows that you are putting effort into it. The entry does not have to be complete and can be work in progress.

This is what I dont want to see. Clearly no effort was put into it.

Stefan thank you for the guidance of expectations of Garage entries and for just having the Garage as an outlet and I hope that people will continue to update progress on their cars there. I have found it useful for new ideas and being able to see more than just descriptions of what has been done. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Stefan: Is it possible to categorize the posts ? * Condition When Purchased * Actively Under Construction
    * Being Driven Presently ?
    Just a thought

Anyone else would like to see this field added?

Here are the current fields that can be filled in when adding a garage entry.

I would like to see something similar. My list would include..

    Purchase date
    Completion level(percentages)
    Annual mileage
    Transmission type
    Wheel size
    Wheel style(OEM or aftermarket)
