Hi, I'm new here. I found this place searching on google. I don't have a Maverick or Comet YET, but my dad used to have a sweet lookin 71 Comet GT that he built.

I currently know where there are 2 decent Mavericks at and am going to look at both of them within the next week. But I REALLY want a Comet like my dad had.

Is it possible to change the tail lights in a Maverick to Comet tail lights? If I end up getting one of these Mavericks I want to make it look like a Comet as much as possible, includeing changing the hood and grill.

Anyways, If you guys want to check out the car my dad had that recently sparked my intrest, check out: http://5hp.hill.cc/hotrod/index2.htm That car was in the May, 1998 edition of Popular HotRodding magazine. He sold it several years ago, I sure would like to know where it's at now. :(

After putting that site together, I realized how much I really like these cars, And now I'm trying to find me a good Comet or Maverick to start doing my thing to.

    Thanks!

Other then the Tail Lights, Hood, Grill and Front Bumper, what is diffrence between a Maverick and Comet? Anything?

Sorry for the double post, I'm just trying to get my options in line.

Nice ... although I liked it better when it was Orange and Black with the factory hood. :)

The front end is an easy swap to convert a Mav to a Comet ...

However , the entire tail light panel is different .. you'd have to cut one out of a comet and weld it onto the Maverick. If you really want a Comet wait around until one pops up ..

Yea, I was kind of afraid that the whole rear panel would have to be cut and re welded in, which isn't really a problem for me and my dad, but I think it would be easyer to just find a Comet in the first place.

If I can get the kind of deal my grandpa says I can on this one Maverick though, I'm jumping on it. I can always sell or trade it for a Comet, gotta start somewhere. And it looks like its in pretty decent shape other then its been sitting for a while.

Thanks guys, this is awesome to find an online community for these cars. I was beginning to wonder if me and my dad were the only 2 people out there that liked them. Most people I have talked to have called them old "granny cars" or "grocery getters", I just don't think they have seen one fixed up right yet! (y)

I will definately be visiting this site often. :)

actually i remember seeing that car in that magazine. however i have never see that out this way in california since it was sold.

i really liked the story on the transformation though.. very intresting and neat to see it go though the transformation. it looked best when it was first painted orange and also when it was finished!

your story almost reminds my of myself when my day sold his GT350 when i was 3 :( i guess memories like that are hard to forget!

anyways glad to have you here. enjoy

That is a really neat story and some great documentation. Sorry to see he sold it. I always wonder why people put so much of themselves into something just to sell it later. Oh well, it's time to start your own story. Good Luck and keep the updates comming.

Hi and welcome to the board.:Welcome: I really enjoyed reading about the history of your Dad's Comet. It would be cool if you could somehow track it down to it's current owner. Now it's time to find a Comet or Maverick of your own and let history repeat it'self. Minus the fender benders of coarse.:)

That's one awesome car. (y) I bet with a little serious searching it can be found. It's amazing what you can do with the Internet now. Anyway, good luck on finding yourself a car and we expect it to be every bit as good as your Dad's. :D
